Purchased a Deck Jig last week at my local Menards Store.  They had 5 left on shelf after my purchase.  Went back there a few days later and shelf was empty.  No Jigs, no screws.  They had a deal where if you purchased Jig, you got a box of 100 deck screws free.  And Spring is right around the corner here in Wisconsin so outside work will soon be starting.  I have a front porch and a rear deck that needs work.

 

Anyway, one time I made a comment that the Deck Jig was just a one purpose  use tool and questioned the cost factor.  Now I'm thinking maybe other uses could be maybe a picnic table top and benches and other outside garden benches. 

Has anyone else found other uses/projects for this tool?

Like the saying goes "the most expensive tool in your shop is the one not being used".

Just received my Woodcraft flyer in the mail.  They offer the Deck Jig with 700 Deck Screws free with purchase.  Same price as Menards.

  The nearest Woodcraft store is 65 miles from me and shipping charges would probably eat up the difference.

Last year Rockler had same deal 700 screws and free shipping that when I bought mine. I just checked

no special yet was about this time last year however Easter is earlier this year.

I bought a deck jig last year to build a deck at my cottage; was very happy with the jig and the end result.

I also planned to build some benches, and ended up using the deck jig for that as well. The top was made up from 5/4x6 deck board, so I used the deck jig to hide the holes on the surface. That served two purposes; it hid the holes, but it also avoided the issue of visible screws or holes (with splinters and sharp edges) on the seating surface.

Glad to hear you were satisfied with jig, Derek.  Can't wait to start using mine.  Saw a nicely designed table at Menards the other day $999.99.  Made of composite.  I'm going to copy that design but not use composite.

On my deck/front porch, I'm going to take boards off, use the other side and fill in holes with water proof putty or glue.  My rear deck too.  Recycling at its best.

I'd recommend using ''Silicone Rubber Caulk"---the type suitable for aquariums or boat hulls, to fill the voids.

Insure the boards are dried, before applying the caulk.

It's great to hear that you're having success with the Deck Jig! There are definitely other ways to use it beyond securing decking, and you guys are proving that. We love seeing and hearing about the creativity that is consistently shown by the members of this Community. Keep up the great work!
