Kreg Owners' Community

My lady friend and I just put together a captains bed and 2 night stands. we went through almost three boxes of screws: what is the best way to buy them?  I usually get my from Lowes, but I have read about the much bigger boxes of them, where is the best place to get those? And, are they any cheaper buying them in the bigger boxes?

thanks

Baer Supply is one of many sources.

I get mine at Amazon.com.

Kreg SML-C125-100 1-1/4-Inch 8-Coarse Washer-Head Pocket Screws, 100-Count   $6.30

.06 per screw

Kreg SML-C125 1-1/4-Inch No. 2 Coarse Screw (1000-Pack)  $24.00

.02 per screw

So if you brought 10 100-packs for $6.30 each you will spend $63.00, but with the same $63.00 you could almost get three 1000-pack boxes.

I had recently brought a 5000-pack box of 2½" blue kote screws for use on 2x4 projects, plus a 1000-pack box of 1¼" screws for use in 1x projects.

I dont use Kregs I buy from Sommerfelds tools Lot cheaper and larger quanities

Hi Rick - I buy 'em wherever I can get the best price, generally in boxes of 500 or a 1000. I've caught Sears on sale and some off eBay as well as the other normal outlets. They aren't really cost effective in quantities less than 500.

I'm an Amazon guy too! Always have big boxes and all sizes, no tax and can get free shipping too,

Amazon and occasionally I catch a deal at Woodcraft making them nearly the same price as Amazon. They even carry the hi-lo thread screws for particle board! (I like to give some of my $$'s to the non-box stores/Amazon too :))

I bought some General Tools pockethole screws from Home Depot when they were on clearance a few weeks ago. I swear they are a 'smidgen' longer than Kreg (had some pop-through).

I also bought a container of WoodMaster 1 1/4 coarse from Rockler, but haven't tried them out - and yes, they were much cheaper.

As was was mentioned by a few, buying in larger quantities is the only way to go! My outdoor stuff is mainly built out of true 1" deckboard - meaning I've gone through a couple thousand bluekote 1 1/2" screws.  I'm also on my 3rd or 4th thousand box of 1 1/4 coarse.

I didn't know Sears carries the screws - will have to check it out the next time there.

I also just started looking in to Sommerfelds' stuff...

Sidebar: Sommerfeld has screws that 1 1/8"  ($15/1,000) - anyone ever use them?

I always use Sommerfelds screws and saw blades. Never problem and the best customer relations around,Free shipping also

McFeely's has some decent deals from time to time. You can buy just about any type of screw.

Hi Scott - Sears won't have them in all stores, just the bigger ones. You can find them on their website though. I caught a sale on them last spring for 50% off and free shipping over $50 so I loaded up.

Expensive is all relative.

Kreg screws are less expensive than some other joinery methods.

One needs to take in account the cost of applicable tools, materials, time and labor.

Kregs system is simple---

drill---clamp---drive.

Can't get much simpler than that.

Very effective for the DYI as well as the seasoned craftsman.

For some simple projects, pretty accurate cuts can be make with a hand-saw,

and fastened together with Kreg screws.

Also, in some applications, using the Kreg system makes for an easy ''knock-down'' system.

such as in building temporary frames and fixtures.

Lowes & Amazon. Usually buy 100 at a time for individual projects.

I'd suggest personally contacting the dept manager and the store manager.
