I'm very glad to hear that kreg resolved the clamp issue.

Don,

Tongue and groove joints are simple---

they can be accomplished on a table saw or with a router.

Spline joints are stronger and easier to make.

Obtain some scrap wood pieces and practice---mark the face side, so the end result will have booth faces in the same plane.

Simple dovetails can be made---do a search on ''google'', enter ''dovetails''.

Peruse the various articles---pick some that you can make with simple woodworking tools,

such as a saw, chisel, straight edge or square, pencil and clamp the pieces in a vise.

Dovetails joints have been made for eons, before the introduction of dovetail jigs.

On drawers sides, for example, as few as 3 dovetails will suffice---
it doesn't have to be a 1/2'' size every half-inch.

Get some 3/4'' pine/fir scrap stock and make some practice pieces.

After you've made a couple, you'll get into it.

It's not as difficult as it seems, it just takes practice.

Some of the dovetails jigs, on today's market,  are quite involved in making the setups and adjustments, so as to get it perfect---

or followed by lots of cleanup, and making surfaces in the same plane.

Make the ''pins'' proud, then followed by making the ends flush.

How about some type of simple, almost fool proof tongue and groove tool or dovetail jig that is easy to setup and use.

I would like to receive the newsletter more often. The content is good. I would enjoy some more complex plans/ideas.

A while ago I signed up for the "specials club"? We were suppose to be contacted with discounts or specials, I never received anything.

I use my Kreg Master all the time, it is stationary, affixed to my Kreg bench...It would be nice if it was magnetic...if only a side to affix my Allen wrench too. I hate searching for it and am always afraid to lose it.
I think this community is absolutely the best!  I've learned so much here. To encourage participation, more plans posted, I think giveaways, such as a clamp, box of screws etc would be great! Especially on holidays, such as Mother's Day!

There are many Master Kreggers on this site, that help the newbies immensely. This site is the reason I use my Kreg so much, and why I've been so successful with it.

Thanks for your Consideration,

Angie,

  A magnet can be inset (recessed) in the table surface or edge, to hold metal objects;

such as scales, tools, and the like.

Counter-bore a recess, (so the magnet is flush with the surface), and to the size and depth of the magnet, you chose to use.

Magnet strips are also handy---they can be surface mounted.

Wrenches, a hex key, or to keep a tool handy and nearby, can be tethered to the work bench, so it doesn't get easily lost.

Works for me.

Angie,

I keep a 1/2" rare earth magnet on the clamp base, it keeps my allen wrench handy all the time. I will send pictures of my Kreg base that holds 24X36" panels secured for drilling pocket screw holes. Also pictures of magnet and numbers highlighted in white and yellow for easey reading.

Rick, I would love to see the set up as well.  I have a smaller shop and anything which makes things more convenient and portable is much appreciated. Thanks Pat

Pat,

I will try to upload pictures this week, I have a small shop, reduced from 1200sqft to 300sqft and 1/3 the tools has made portable bases and ease of use very important. I have been been working with wood for over 50 years and now on the retirement side. Smaller, lighter and ease of use is very important. My shop and tools are a major part of my life.

Rick

I agree magnets are very handy little gizmos. I ordered a couple of dozen a year or so ago from KJMagnetics. Prices and quality are much better than you usually get from the WW stores. 1/2" diameter ring magnets with a countersink for #4 screws are the handiest I've found. I've got one epoxied to the drill press to keep track of the chuck key, one to the back of the miter saw fence to hang onto the allen wrench used to lock down the extensions, also use them in some projects.

John, I can also recommend KJMagnetics they have great prices good products and a knowledgeable staff if you need to ask questions. One tip for beginners with the rare earth magnets is to be careful as they are deceivingly strong for their size, easy to pinch a finger. Also you will be surprised how such a small magnet can hold so well.

Thats quite a downsize, any pics you think will be useful for a smaller shop will be much appreciated. 50 years is a long time to work with anything your expertise will be a great help for rookies like me. Thanks Pat

How come you  dont use the hole in end for the wrench
