Whats the best type of sander for wood working?  I am going to build a porch swing what slop angle for back rest about 15 to 20 degrees? Any plans that you know about for building porch swing?

That would depend on what you want the sander to do! A belt sander is quite aggresive and will take lots of material off in little time. An orbital sander is less aggressive on the material and a random ordital sander is less aggressive again, yet has the flip side of not leaving harsh marks in the material surface after sanding.

Asking what is the best sander is like asking what car should I buy with no extra information. Do you have kids, do you want to tow a boat, do you want to go really fast etc etc. Let us know what exactly what you would like to achieve with the sander and we may be able to help you better.

A random orbital sander will do you just fine. I got a cheap one from Cummin's Tools and it's held up fine. I just don't remember the brand off hand....

Definately a random orbital for that use. I've had a 5" bosch for years and it has never let me down. The only issue I have with bosch is that with their oddball style of dust collection system, unless you want to custom fabricate an adaptor you can't get a shop vac to work with it, you are limited to using their disposable bags.

Having said that, I just found out that as of next week my local tool shop will be stocking adapters to get a shop vac on the back of a bosch sander! :)

That i a tough one, I have three that are often used for different things. My random orbital sander gets the most use, with my belt sander close behind. If I need to quickly remove an area, the belt sander cannot be beat. On the other hand a random orbital is great to clean things up without marring the surface.

Thanks for the advise I went with the random orbital from sears since I had a sears shop vac hooked right up. Works well

I have had Porter cable,DeWalt and now a Craftsman and dollar for dollar I would stick with Craftsman,39.00 variable speed hook and loop sane as rest but cheper
