I'm looking for some recommendations for cedar stains.  I like the "knotty" wood look and want to bring out the different colors in the wood.  The local HD has MinWax stain but I couldn't decide which on to use. Any ideas?

Thanks

Brian, I would use a clear on cedar.  but if you seal it you can't smell it..... leave it alone unless it will be outside... then clear sealer
It'll be on a screened-in porch but will be exposed to the elements.  Should I stain it with clear then seal using a poly coat or two?
I have used a gloss product called Man of Wars on many screen doors and it seems to be  a great product.Made by McClosky (spl)
Thanks for the advice Jens.  I was able to find some at a local paint dealer.

My #1 choice is ''Cabot'', Australian Timber Oil, in ''Honey Teak''.

It's a nearly transparent color allowing the most wood grain and texture to show through.

Makes for an ideal rich looking natural finish on cedar.

I have a cedar house and cedar everywhere,  plus teak...  Most my expertise is outdoors or exterior.

Interior use pick what you like.  Most stores have sample displays with wood pieces stained.

What color are you looking to get?

I realize that this is an older thread, but if anyone drops by with an interest in this topic I would recommend downloading the "How to Finish Western Red Cedar" booklet from the Western Red Cedar Lumber Association. It is a free pdf download and is available here: http://www.wrcla.org/pdf/WRCLA_Guide_to_Finishing.pdf

William,

Thanks for posting and sharing.

Very informative info.
