I was wondering what everyone thought about end grain to long grain attachments such as in a little table where the aprons attach to the legs. I thought about using pocket holes for this instead of the traditional way of the mortise and tenon joint because mainly I have no way of making a mortise and tenon joint at this time. Properly done does anyone think this will be a problem? Attached is a picture of an example of what I'm talking about. any feed back would be appreciated

Thanks Kurt

I was thinking mainly about screw tear out or loosening of the joint verses the traditional mortise and tenon joint due to seasonal changes and wood movement. I was wondering will the Kreg joint hold up over the years as good, better or not so good and I'm using them where I shouldn't be?
I built a coffe table and end table using the kreg jig to connect the legs to the aprons I also added glue to the joints. so far so good and they are just as tight as when I built them

I think that would work. Alternatively though you could also use stopped dados in the legs.
I do lots of screen doors and this is exactly the way the rails /stiles are don never had a problemhere is what the door attachment looks so it is no different than table legs
scroll down and check out the kreg skill building videos on the right side of the page, one of the videos there describes exactly what you want to do
Its just a lot of old school guys are telling me that I'm making a mistake using pocket holes in this case. I added a drawing of the table that I'm gona make out of cherry I think. Its shown without the top to show the pocket holes and there locations. I think I have pretty much made up my mind and this is the way its going to me made.

Thats great, thats the way I would do it, I could never use sketch up to make a drawing like that.

If you have Sketchup and would like the drawings I made using pocket holes here is a link you can download them from. http://www.screencast.com/t/tgcKaNHZ9SX

If you want the ordinal plans here a link to those as well.http://www.srww.com/sketchup-furniture-plans.htm

Here a link to get Sketchup if you don't have it, its easy to learn! http://sketchup.google.com/

Thanks for the advise.
