My next build is an entertainment center consisting of both oak veneer plywood and actual oak dimensional lumber (mostly for face frame and hardwood edge banding --- not the iron on banding), both 3/4" stock.
Plywood calls for coarse screws.
Oak lumber calls for fine screws.
So tell me if this makes sense and please correct me if I am wrong:
Plywood to plywood joints I should use coarse screws
Oak to oak (face frame construction) I should use fine screws
Plywood to oak (attaching face frame to cabinet carcass) I think I should use fine screws....my thinking is that although I am going through plywood, I am sinking into oak boards on the face frame and don't want to cause splitting with coarse screws.
All feedback would be great! And as I'm using 3/4" stock, I plan to use 1 1/4" screws regardless of thread.

My understanding is that the material receiving the screw determines the screw thread type. For the face frame to the carcass, if the pocket hole is drilled into the plywood then the oak is the receiving material so you would use a fine thread.
Keith, your entire plan of execution is correct. As R.E. mentioned below, it would be recommended to use fine-thread screws when attaching plywood to oak. Thanks for posting!

Your plan of action is correct and the one I'd follow. Good luck and safe building!

Hi. I'm wondering if anyone has used the Woodpecker Free Hand Guard for dust collection on their bench top router table during pattern routing. How effective is it? It's adaptable to any router table. Continue

I saw the video Kreg put out for this new jig and had high hopes for it.
I purchased one today and am very disappointed with it.
First the docking station is extremely cheap. The plastic is pathetic. A Lego has more…
