dumb hobby?

I am a retired computer engineer and, yes, I do remember punch cards, baudot tape, etc.
My father was a cabinet maker who did not encourage us to go into the trade because in the 1950's cabinets were being made of metal and plastic (didn't last long.)
Born and raised in California, I moved about two years ago to Michigan (northern half of the lower peninsula) and partitioned part of the large pole barn and spend enjoyable hours creating just about anything from wood.

I used to build pole barns also have had a Masonry Restoration company in Colorado and Idaho,after that venture I got into pole barns

Just a little gallows humor. Obviously it is a tragedy when any woodworker gets injured, but a professional pilot is especially vulnerable. There are a lot of injuries I could get that would cause me to lose my license (and my job along with it). Reminding myself of this before I hit a tool's 'on' switch help's me be careful and focused.

Hello, I'm a retired Firefighter in the Metro Atlanta Area just south of Atlanta. I had a hobby which was screen printing t-shirts for friends, but it grew into a hobby business, then a full time business for me and my son, who is also a firefighter. It got so busy I had to find a new hobby, so here I am. I bought my KJ back in the winter and because my workshop is basically my carport, I had to wait until it warmed up before I could use it. I've already done things with it or because of it, that I would not have attempted before now.

Jens, you're an instigator. Look what you started.
We've exchanged some eMails, You & I, about our screen doors, so we're not complete strangers...but in the the daytime I do what a lot of you folks do as a hobby.
I've been a builder most of my life starting as a boat builder with a brief 25 year stint as an IBM'er and computer leasing guy, even brought a company public (yeah, I remember punch cards and Keypunch's & sorters, worked with them all the time).
Now I build mostly cabinets and decorative stuff; some historic restoration, some additions when there's work, and a patented invention called 'PerpetualPowerSitter' that provides power when the power goes out. Lately that's been taking a lot of my time.
