I build a lot of bunk beds and like to use the kreg to secure the top and bottom bunk.  However I don't like the look of the kreg plug without finishing it.  To solve this problem I came up with a "Decorative" removable plug.  I mitered a piece of 2x2 stock and glued it to the plug.  I had to sand off some of the plug to get it to fit right.  Now the plugs have a stylist look to them and hides the pocket holes well.  The pics should be self-explanatory.

I guess I dont understand the reason for pocket screw top to bottom ,When I have built lots of them I always use long enough corner posts to secure both upper and lower. Maybe Im missing something in the story

They are to secure the top and lower bunk together.  Mine break down into two separate beds.  What you are looking at is the bottom of the top bunk.

Very nice Richard. Looks like through tenons.
Very innovative! I can say with certainty that I've never seen that done before. Did you do any joints with two holes decoratively finished?

There are no joints.  Only the pocket holes from the Kreg.

Okay  I have seen pull apart s like that but use a pin and hole then just add some trim to cover the cut line that wraps around the bottom post
Hi Richard: it is a wonderful idea , congratulations!
Thanks!
That is an excellent idea.  You could use any number of shapes or trim ideas to hide these holes.  Very innovative!
richard, this is a great idea to hiding the plugs for pocket screws, thanks for the information. i hope to use the info in the future.
