I can build cabinets without any problem, but I'm baffled on how to make a cabinet door. I have made basic cabinet doors with 3/4" oak plywood and have put edge banding around it, but I'm to a point where I want to build better doors with 1 x 2 or 1 x 3 oak around the door and route the inset. Has anyone ever done this before? I've seen the router bits for making the doors, but how hard is it?

I am brand-new at this... just built my very first cabinet doors. I used pine to make a simple frame, then routed a groove in it and slid in pine wainscot panels. After assembly (with Kreg pocket holes, of course), I routed an edge on them, sanded, stained, and put a few coats of glossy Spar varnish on them. I am really pleased with the results. I'll post a pic soon. These are the galley cabinets for my teardrop camper, by the way.
As promised, here is a pic of the first face frame and cabinet doors for my teardrop trailer. Face frame and doors are completely assembled with Kreg pocket screws.

I have magazine in woodshop that I will get out and go to page that shows how to do a raised panel door from 3/4 inch panel with hardwood frame work, It is simple to do. Get back with me if you dont hear from me within a day
Here you go as far as raised panel doors I have three more pages

They really aren't extremely hard to do, much easier is you buy the setup blocks that match the router bits you plan on using for starters. If you're doing cope and stick with raised panels they aren't bad at all after the bits are setup. A much easier door is a flat panel or mission style that can be done with a slot cutting bit or a tongue and groove bit. I have found that the doors look much better if you use a larger rail and stile, like 2 1/2 or 3 inches. The picture of the cabinet was made with flat panels and the blanket chest I used the rail and stile bits with a raised panel. Setup is the key, a coping sled is a good idea as well.

Thanks for all the information. I'll print the pages and use them for future reference.
Thanks for posting this question. I am new to building cabinet doors also. I've had a little trial and error. I am so glad to see so many helpful replies to this post! Thanks all!
Assuming you have a router table. stile and rail bits are very easy to useI have used 3 different profiles of Freud stile and rail bits. They sre precision bits and do require precision setup, micro height adjust is a big plus to shorten setup. As mentioned before a coping sled is also a plus to have. Remember when you are cutting the rails, that the profile requires 3/8" extra length on each side a total of 3/4" per rail to achieve the desired length of rail for the door. Suggest you practice with scraps before you start.
