Thank you for the comment and compliment. I think I have figured it out, there is a know it all in the "community" that really doesn't. I was wondering about the reference to the counter sink drill bits being shown as I have those. I thought maybe there was something I was missing, but then noticed a further comment about it and was wondering what the point is myself. So I left it alone. I don't understand ppl sometimes and their need to talk all the time and not say much in the end. I do appreciate you saying something because bad info certainly does not help someone trying to understand.

I can't wait to try it from the STEP and not the TIP. :-) I just watched the videos again and yep got to the step, not the tip. Now if I can just find some more wood on my walk to wally world tomorrow.

Thanks,

Hi William, the problem may be with the settings on your jig or drill bit. Setting the jig to 3/4" means aligning the Drill Guide Block with the 3/4" mark, if you are using the Kreg Jig K3, K4, or K5 model. Also, you need to align the STEP of the drill bit to the 3/4" mark, not the tip of the bit. Here are a couple of images from the manual that may help.

If you are using the Kreg Jig R3, make sure you have the Sliders aligned with the 3/4" mark and, once again, the STEP of the drill bit (not the tip) aligned with the 3/4" mark in the case. Her eare images:

If you continue to experience problems, you can contact our Customer Service Department. They'll be glad to help you.

I have another nightmare. Building and second shelf, same as before only bigger. The Kreg Screw chart and the youtube videos say if you are using 3/4" plywood set the Jig at 3/4" and the drill bit at 3/4" and use a 1 1/4 Kreg Screw. I did and it didn't even get enough bit on the wood to hold it upright. What am I doing wrong?

I finally pulled out the Kreg 1 1/4" screws and without the jig, using the Kreg Drill Bit guesstimated a quart inch more and it is standing on it's own. I must be reading and viewing everything wrong but what am I doing wrong.

Hep! I'm in over my head...

James,

One of the toys I bought today was the Kreg Rip-Cut. I checked out the videos on you tube and they all looked like they were sawing flat on a table, are they sacrificing a table? Is there a good page that tells me how to properly use a rip cut, what to lay it on...

Man I know this sounds like a pre-beginner question but if there is a perfect way to use a circular saw? I've kinda been busy with keeping myself alive if you know what I mean. :-)

Oh yes, I have a Ryobi 4 volt but it can't get a hole screw in with out me turning it manually to get it all the way in. 7.2 volt genesis sounded like it might do it. Thanks for showing me around. I painting my first project today, and it doesn't look too bad.

Thanks James, The one I liked was the SNAP ON but seemed a bit for a guy who is looking for scrap wood. :-) Sooooo I popped over to Amazon and grabbed a genesis for $29, I'll save up for the Snap On one. :-)

Thanks James and Welcome Home! I checked out the shorter driver on Amazon but unfortunately (or fortunately) I ended up with an additional 3 items. :-)  I'll need a new shop just to hold my Kreg stuff.

Do you have the model number or exact name of the mini cordless driver? So far everthing I've made around the house now is made out of old wood I've found around. Haven't driven since '88, Neurologist said it would be dangerous for all concerned, so getting wood is a oooh there is a piece of wood someone is throwing out. ;-)

Thanks for the tips. I'm blown away at the slide show going on above me, you are too cool.

Hi James,

Thank you for informing us on the issues you are having with video views. We filed a report with Ning Support this morning and here's what they had to say: "Thanks for getting in touch with our team! We’ve already filed a report related to this issue with our engineering team. I’ve gone ahead and added your network and your ticket number to the report. We will follow up with you in this ticket once the issue has been resolved by our engineers."

We'll be in touch with updates. Hopefully they can get this issue resolved soon.

Thanks!

hey jim, still working on how to fix the top of the grilling station

a few ideas:

a. laminate 3 layers of 3/16 birch plywood, waterproof it with epoxy, then glue the metal to the lvl. the 4 layers altogether will be the exact height of the existing mitered frame. maybe use construction adhesive to hold the metal in place, caulk with exterior silicone around the metal edge.

b. use my router to plane the existing pressure treated plywood 1/32 less than the height of the existing frame. drop the metal on the plywood and glue down

c. buy another piece of birch plywood exactly 5/8" thick. add the metal sheet on top to match the exact width of the existing frame.

d. take the whole dang thing apart and burn it all. the cedar makes a cool popping sound in the firepit :/

OH, the router is a porter cable.  It came with 2 tops (got it without a box, so no instruction manual) and have been trying to figure out how everything works for a bit now.

Free Hand Guard (dust collection)

Hi.  I'm wondering if anyone has used the Woodpecker Free Hand Guard for dust collection on their bench top router table during pattern routing.  How effective is it?  It's adaptable to any router table.  Continue
