Hello, my name is Jan Nahorski from Joliet, IL.  I am about 5-6 years away from retirement and want to start filling out my woodworking shop. I am going to concentrate on scroll sawing small projects for my family and building Kreg jig furniture for re-sale.  I want to emphasize how strong my pieces are because of the pocket hole joinery used and how practical they are.  I would appreciate hearing from anyone with advice on getting started  with my Kreg jig toward that purpose.  I know about all the plans on this site and on YouTube for wood pieces utilizing the Kreg jig but is there others that I should know about?   What about wood sources?  Finishing ideas? I am like a dry sponge wanting to absorb it all so I hope to hear from you all.

http://ana-white.com/ This is a great website, she helps out in a lot of ways.

http://www.reuserepurposeupcycle.com/ I use the pictures to get great ideas about how to arrange and paint the items I redo.

Frank & Ken,  THANK YOU!  It is gratifying to know that we have a dependable source to help with our 'newbie' questions.  I really think that simple furniture and knick knacks that are built with pocket hole joinery techniques are what I want to concentrate on and I promise that after I get started and become more experienced I will give back to this site in the form of pictures, plans and tips. Jan,

I'd suggest starting with making simple stuff---

objects that you can use around the house;

such as step stools, benches, planter boxes, shadow boxes, shelving, book cases, and the like.
These can be made using simple tools and economical materials, that can be painted or stained.

This will give you a good start into using Kreg Pocket Hole Joinery, before venturing into making furniture.

Start now---get the practice out of the way---don't wait 'til you retire---

lots of water will go over the spillway by then.

Have fun making sawdust and building.

PS---there's a Rockler store in Schaumburg, that is well stocked with Kreg products.

Check their ''demo'' schedule---pocket hole joinery is frequently offered.

If it's not on the schedule, just call them and ask for it.

They're very accommodating.

Thanks so much.  That's what I plan to do exactly-small,simple but practical things at first. Thanks for the lead about the Rockler store in Schaumburg-I definitely will check out their demo schedule.  I also think there is a Rockler store in Tinley Park but I'm not sure.  I check that out also.

Yeah, I just checked the Rockler site and noticed that.  I also checked the SChaumburg stores Demo schedule and it is quite impressive.  Thanks for your info.  Ironically, I just was at the Berlands store in New Lenox this afternoon where I purchased a Dremel workstation. thanks for the websites=good information.

Hi Jan, welcome to the Kreg community. You will love the jig when you get it, it's a really fast and accurate way to build. I'm using mine to make workshop cabinets and I have completed one and another is almost finished. Best wishes and good luck.
