Kreg Owners' Community

After about the 20th time searching for the thread and wonderful PDF guide that outlines screw length and jig setting guidelines, I decided to put my "day job" skills to work and create a simple web application that compiles the matrix of data from the chart into a handy web-based selection tool.  You can save the page to your phone's home screen, and once it's loaded the first time, you won't need an internet connection to use it.

The app allows you to select the type of joint (edge vs. face), and the widths of both the pocket hole board and base (receiving board).  Of course, all of these settings are suggestions, and as usual, should be tested with scrap material before using with your project material!

Without further ado - here's the link - hope this is helpful, and happy building!

Looks good. I will have to see how it works when I get back to me shop.

That's very nice and accurate for the couple settings I tested

Nice work and thanks for helping everyone out!

That is awesome Mike!  I will be using this quite a bit!

Nice app added it to my iPad.
Thanks

Great app! Usually great things are not free! Thanks!

THANKS! I are quite confused with the screw legnths.

This morning I made an edge joint with the 1.5" side of a 2x4 and the 3.5" side of a 1x4. The pocket hole went into the 3.5" side (top side) of the 2x4 (serving as a shelf) and the screw entered the 3.5" side of the 1x4. I set the bit and the portable jig to 1.5".  This worked to put a 1x4 behind the 2x4 that was serving as a shelf. The 1x4 won't let stuff fall off the back of the 2x4. I just used your app to set the pocket hole board at 1.5" (my 2x4 shelf) and the base board at 3/4" (the piece to not let stuff fall off the 2x4). I used 1-1/4" coarse thread screws. I chose the screw length based on the thickness of the base board (3/4"). This came back as not recommended.  Why?  It seems to be working. But I've only had these things a week and want to know if I should have done something different.  Thanks. This looks like a great app. Do you have one for my phone???

Jack

PS

I just used the app on my phone by using the browser. When will your Android app be available? :)

Been thinking about this a bit more. Also looking at the screw selection/jig setting chart. The chart seems accurate as long as the two pieces of wood being joined are the same thickness. As I stated before I joined a 2x4 to a 1x4. In this case the hole was drilled into the 3.5" side of the 2x4 so I set the bit and drill guide to 1.5" both. If I were joining that to another 2x4 I would have selected a 2-1/2" screw. But that would have gone all the way through the 1x4. So I selected the screw length (1-1/4") based on the thickness of the board (3/4") the tip of the screw was going into.   In the app you call the 1x4 the base board.

So please correct me if I'm wrong but I'll set the drill bit and the drill guide to the width of the board I'm putting the pocket hole in. Then I'll select the screw length based on the thickness of the piece of wood I'm joining that to.  Is that a good way to decide?

Thanks Jim.  I searched the community for "001 chart" and found the photo and printed it. Looks great. Little blurry but I can read it.  The chart is much more useful I think than the screw chart I have seen. The one in the booklet that came with the tool. Thanks again.
