How to join a 45 Deg Angle on a 1 1/2" board to a 1/2" plywood??

Hello!

I built my first piece of furniture, a coffee table and I am now working on rolling storage crates/seats to go under the table. 

I have a Kreg K4. I want to create, I think, 45 degree angles as shown in the pictures attached, for the crates, but I can not for the life of me figure out how to! Suggestions will be appreciated.

sorry, not sure what you are trying to accomplish, are you wanting to drill your pocket holes at the angle shown on the picture? or are you wanting to cut the entire length of wood at a 45º?

Hey Carlos. Thanks for trying to help!! To clarify, I'm trying to make my pocket holes at that angle, like it is drawn on the wood. I hope that makes sense. It is such a large crate, I wanted to reinforce the slats into that brown piece.

I see, and you don't want to just drill the holes straight? I think you would get a stronger joint if  you went straight in instead of an angle.

I agree with Carlos in that I would drill these pocket holes straight in from the side. You could do it at an angle but you would need to do some trial holes on scrap since this would not be a setting we would offer. This could also compromise the strength of the joint since it would be going in differently than intended.

Thanks for responding as well. I think Carlos was suggesting to just to drill in screws (straight in) without the pocket holes, if I am understanding correctly.

I thought of that, but also thought maybe if it could be done, a pocket hole would be stronger. I practiced on scome scraps to get try to get the angles right, but using the depth for the board (1.25"), adjusting the collar, and using the portable jig, the pocket holes were not going in deep enough. I lucked out once and was not able to replicate. I was just trying to figure out if there was an instructional sheet for strange angles or if any one had suggestions.

Thanks Carlos. Yeah, I guess straight in, without the pocket holes is my only option right now. I was just trying to figure out if there was such a way to do accomplish that angle. I followed another person's woodworking plans, and she called for only using brad nails on the slats and it was just not a solid build with that alone. So, here I am trying to improvise :)

You can go straight in at 90 degrees with pocket holes.  That is what I am suggesting.  Your pocket hole will cut through the side of the 2X2 but that's ok since it will be on the inside.

Thanks for the quick support. It is greatly appreciated! I understand what you are suggesting now. That definitely sounds like the simpler way of doing this!! The only reason why I was asking for suggestions on the crazy difficult angle is because the woodworking plans I followed suggested brad nailing in the slats only. Which is not sturdy enough. So, I have all those nails on the side I would do the 90 angle on--no room for any pocket holes on that side. It looks like I need to start over :) I rather it be right. Thanks again for the advice--will follow it.

yeah, I meant straight in with pocket holes.  :)

A pocket hole in a "counterbored" hole, drilled at an angle.

Counterbored holes, can be achieved by using the Kreg drill, (3/8" step drill), with depth collar set for drilling to the desired depth, so as to recess the head AND obtain adequate thread engagement into the adjoining member.

Use the Kreg screws, for assembly.

Option:  Install plugs to cover the holes.

Works for me.

Thanks for the tip Ken. Perhaps that may be my issue. I tried 90 degree angles into the 1x3 selects with the bit that came with the kit and the wood kept spitting when joining to the plywood. Played with the stop collar settings with no luck.
