Does anyone know where to get a plan or ideas for stairs or a ladder for a slide at a swimming pool?   I have the slide. I need a ladder and mount it to a wooden deck around an above ground pool. The deck is raised to the level of the top of the pool.  I would like to build it instead of buying one. Any help is appreciated.

Hi Jack, don,t know of any plans , but would at least use 2 x 4,S for the sides and the step,s for safety, happy building , JIM !!

Jack,

Like James I don't have any plans for a ladder, swimming pool slide or other.  However from my decades as a firefighter I can offer the following;  The optimum climbing angle for a ladder is 75 degrees.  A quick way to gauge this without doing a lot of trigonometry or having a huge calculator is to place your toe against the beam while standing on level ground and outstretch your arms parallel to the ground.  where your fingertips touch the beam is roughly 75 degrees.  Other then that sand, sand and sand so little fingers don't get splinters and consider some kind of anti skid for the rungs (steps) to minimize the chances of a slip and fall.

Happy building and swimming, Don

Hi Jack.

I would recommend composite decking for this to hopefully eliminate the rot that will inevitably come with being wet all the time.  No sanding (except for the edges), no splinters, and holds together easily with screws and/or bolts, and comes in multiple colors and sizes. You can put it together the same as you would with a wood ladder.  Also, look into using the same non-slip grip pads you would use in a bath tub.  You can find these in strips, sheets, or patterns.  Put them on the rungs inside and outside of the pool to cut down on accidents. You can find them in the plumbing section.

Hello Jack! I think that you should consult an expert on this one. I mean, building a ladder for your pool needs to be done perfectly for safety reasons.
