Should I use Loctite threadlcker to keep the set screw of a depth collar stop from loosening?

I am using the Kreg Deck kit.

Both the drill bit and the screw driver bit have stop collars.

I have had no problems with the collar on the drill bit.

I continue to have problems with the set screw of the collar for the screw driver bit.

That set screw tends to loosen after driving 7 - 10 screws.

I have been thinking of using a thread adhesive like Loctite threadlocker.

Has anyone tried this or similar products with any success?

Is there any advantages or disadvantages of using either the Loctite Red threadlocker or the Loctite Blue ?

I have the deck jig but have not used it yet.

But I do know the difference between Red and Blue Loctite, Red is permanent you will not be able to loosen the screw once Red has dried. I once made a mistake and used Red on something when I need to remove the set screw I had to heat the screw to red hot with a torch.

Blue will allow you to a remove and adjust in fact the allen screws Kreg uses on the bench clamps have blue Loctite on them. I would give blue a try it would not hurt.

Jeff, I agree your suggestion to use the Blue and stay clear of the Red

If applying threadlock to the set-screw, only use a "half a drop".

Before applying adhesive, insure all traces of residue, oils and the like, are removed from the threads---

both on the internal and external threads.

(The adhesive will not stick to an oily surface).

 

Apply the adhesive to the tip of a tooth pick, then use the toothpick to apply about 1/2 of the droplet to the leading end of the external threads.  

Applying too much threadlock to the threads, will cause potential problems, when attempting to loosen the set screw.

Ken is right on how to use Loctite I use the paste version so it applies different then the liquid. The Kreg Rep advised contacting customer service do what they suggested they know best.

Thank You I now have a solution when I use my jig I bought it as I had a deck to do but the person went with someone else I have done many and will do more so I will use it soon.

just grab some of your wife's nail polish. A drop of that on the set screw will hold it. It will be easier to loosen the set screw later. Thread locker can be brutal when you need to remove it. I think the blue stuff isn't as permanent as the red. http://www.loctiteproducts.com/threadlockers.shtml
