If anybody want to be able to drill alot faster using their kreg jig check out these videos showing how to make a simple jig that makes a kreg jig alot faster by making it so you can clamp the material using a simple foot lever attachment. Real easy to make and basically made of scrap wood. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3FDQMOgvnrg

I have seen it and it does a really good job, especially if you need a LOT of pocket holes in a short time. Not sure about the cost of materials but I do know it has to be cheaper than the least expensive $900 machine Kreg sells and a LOT cheaper than the $3000-4000 machines.

A little girl running it!

In defense of Kreg Tools and their engineering of their products I think I will stick to the original model and how it is made but if I wanted to alter one I would not do it in the way that it is shown in the videos.  The levers and arms  take up a lot of room and would also tire out the leg causing you to get out of sink.  Get out of sink with a drill bit and not have it totally out of the path of the wood the tip will be broken off as soon as you introduce the clamp.  I have one that is on a dedicated bench that remains in its fixed position and has for several years.

I altered the clamp by using an air cylinder and air switch that will not tire you out as it is simply  bumped with the left or right knee  to lock the clamp and remove the knee to release the clamp.  The clamping power is positive on regular grained wood as well as with the melamine sheets.  The only reason I altered the clamping system was to solve the problem with reaching around or walking around a large sheet to clamp and un-clamp it.  This is the only Kreg jig I have had to modify and it was not because of how well it clamped.

I did this long before Kreg Tools came out with the auto clamp and drill system on their big production machines.  There is photos of this in my discussion pages or if you wish I can provide you with some photos.   It is a clean and simple modification that has worked well over 20 years in everyday production.  It is based on a K2 jig.

I am sure that I can drill as many holes just as fast at the modified jig shown in the videos and not have to worry about the wood holes wearing out or breaking.

They do take up a bit of room but I don't think you would have any problems with breaking bits.

All I mention was the cost, not about the engineering.    ....sticking tongue out, "PHHHHHHTTTT".

James,

Have you see the contraption in operation?---performing the intended task?

The construction It will not hold-up to continuous use.

The machines, you mentioned are designed for a ''production" shop use---

they're cost prohibitive for the DYI/homeowner.

One could push a wheelbarrow to hawl their groceries home from the store---

cheaper than a automobile.

BTW--a double-wheeled type would be more stable.

Those machines in the videos will drill thousands of holes no problem without wearing out.

Wayne,

I think I would like to spend my time on building project and not wasting my time on building some contraption that speeds up the part of the project that is already fast and easy.

Congratulations. Your very first comment on this forum!
Anybody make one of these yet?

No and I don't intend to at any time.  I would not waste my time or the lumber to build it even if it is scrap.  I don't seen where there is an advantage to it.  I am more that happy with the air clamp modification I did to my jig over 20 years ago.
