Hi James, thank you for the complement. That is my 1st piece. Getting better, I have been busy all day with second and bigger piece. Sanding and sealing done, now final sand then varnish.

Jim,

Don't ever confuse a carpenter with a woodworker. As you gain more experience, you will enhance your woodworking abilities. Few will ever fall into the realm of  carpentry. They are two completely different directions. Being a former carpenter, I can attest to the fact that a carpenter is a wood butcher. Very few Master carpenters would ever call themselves woodworkers.

Again, they are two completely different areas of endeavor. I hope you continue to grow and enjoy your efforts as a woodworker.

Hello, My name is Clay Johnson, I live in the upstate of South Carolina.  I finally pulled the trigger and bought the Kreg master system.  I enjoy woodworking and look forward to the knowledge and experience from this website.  I just finished my first set of cornhole boards using the Kreg system, it's very nice to not have to fill screw holes on the top of the board!

Hello this is Raj and am a new member to this community. I am an intermediate DIYer. I am interested in building some projects using Kreg pocket hole system. I need help in selecting some power tools. Over the years I have been using a 7-1/4 " Craftsman circular saw and a Black & Decker 14 V cordless drill. I have reviewed the specs of DeWalt, Makita & Bosch circular saws - each one has its strengths & weakness. In general they seem to be good. Is there a preference of one over the other? I have decided to go with the 18 V li-ion Bosch 3/8 drill/driver. There are similar offerings from DeWAlt & Makita. Any help will be much appreciated

I personally would not own a hand drill with less than a 1/2" capacity chuck. My circular saw is a worm drive dewalt. I don't use a lot of cordless drills, they lack the extra power when you need them. Personal preferences are important, when you purchase tools. I worked as a carpenter earlier in my life, so I made sure my tools were powerful enough to get the job done, with maximum capacity (such as chuck size). You can always chuck-up smaller accessories, but never chuck-up ones larger than your tool's capacity. You can get drills with even larger capacities than 1/2", but it would not only be over-kill, accessories that large should be in a floor-mounted drill press.

It sounds like you already have an inclination toward cordless tools, best of luck to you, I find them to be nothing more than toys. I truly hope you find what works best for you. Good luck on all your future endeavors!

Hi,

This is Nils and I am living in NYC.  Used to have a 6 bedroom house and now live in 600 sq ft :), and with my wife about to have a baby in a few days, decided there is  a need for more space, in particular a very large wardrobe.

Realized that my woodworking skills pretty much ceased growing in the 7th grade shop around 42 years ago, and a technology refresh is desperately needed.   Ahh yet another learning curve:  Butt joint, biscuits, Mortise and Tenon, Dovetail, how many joints are there?  Wait, what is this, Pocket-Hole, it looks like the Holy Grail.

Looking forward to the project and hope my problem solving skills are up to the task.  More importantly, your design expertise.

Hi all,

My name is Marius (39)(South Africa), I'm a adventurous DIY guy and have made and re-used several things so far. I absolutely love working with wood and have done several projects for myself and also 1 or 2 for friends. I will get photos up as soon as I have figured out where to put them. Some of the things I have done includes a Castle changing station for my son, Headboard for my bed, Coffee table with sandbox build in, Butchers block like stand for my gas stove, a day couch and a couple of others things.

The reason I joined this site is because I recently purchased the Kreg Master System and I want to learn everything I can on this system as I would like to start making furniture for an extra income. I have already seen how this system can work for me through all the photos from all u awesome woodcrafters. Thanks for all the photos and advise u post here.

Its a very informative site for those with an interest in woodworking, the members range from very experienced woodworkers right down to those that have been exposed to timber and the tools available from a recent purchase.

There is no doubt you are in for a very informative time when you start exploring around the site.

Just what members have been doing and freely display to the chats, reviews and lots of other available information relating to experiences skills choices etc.

The photos of members work they have displayed is testament alone to the motivated drive and striving to produce products from basic joints to very advanced joinery, all are meritous and serve as a guide at the levels you wish to achieve or strive for, or even  just have some fun.
