Hi Ken, Thanks for sharing this. I'm Looking to buy a bandsaw in the next couple of weeks to replace my old 9'' bench top craftsman that I bought on craigs list for 25.00. I've been researcing anything I can about bandsaws. I have a basement shop so I don't want anything to big or heavy.

copy and paste the pertinent info and photo's to a word document, 

for later viewing.

For a basement shop, a bench or stand style will be more suitable,

easier to get it up and down stairs.

It'll take some time to sort thru it all.

It would be helpful to make a list of applicable data---

also, advantages/disadvantages, so as to make comparisons.

A local facility may have some books or magazines, that contain useful info.

I'd suggest buying the best you can afford.

Also, keeping in mind, repair/replacement parts and serviceability.

A band saw is a good investment, that you'll get lots of good use, and will have for a long time.

I'd do a good research, before finalizing on your decision.

thanks Ken, I'm sorta leaning torwards the delta saw that lowes has for sale for 449.00 I'm pretty sure I wouldn't need anythig bigger than a 6'' capacity for resawing. I like the fact that it has a small foot print and wouldn't take up much floor space. It weighs around 200lbs. and with the hel[p of a few brother inlaws and a couple of freinds I could get it in the basement. I all ready got a ridgid r4512 down there with the same crew. It doesn't come with a fence but I read great things about the kreg band saw fence. I'm going to the woodworking show in Jersey sometime this weekend and I'll probably come away from there more confused than ever. thanks again

Hi Ray,

The Delta band saw, tagged $419, the other day at Lowes.

Nice machine, I think you'll be pleased with it. 

Heard tell of good things. 

I've perused the Kreg fence---looks well engineered and simple.

Very thin slices can be made with dead-on accuracy.

I suppose this over-size saw blade would be a tad too big for cutting your timbers?

Saw blade removed and brought into the shop for sharpening.

The shark-size teeth on this blade are a little larger than those found on most band-saw blades.

Ken, I bet that saw blade could do some real damage if you weren't paying attention.
