My name is Charlotte and I am from Mississippi.  I love to to all kinds of crafts and we built our own home.  I never worked much with wood but have done lots of ceramic tile and stained concrete floors.  I have always wanted to do woodworking but fairly easy projects nothing too complicated.  I don't have a router so I am somewhat limited on some things.  All I want for Christmas is a Kreg Jig!  I am excited about building something....

 Hi names Dale I live in central Tx. I've worked off and on with wood since I was 15. I was in the navy for a few years,Veitnam put me on the sidelines(wounded 5 times.) I retired and went to work the Postal Service, retried then went on to do what I readly liked building home and cabinets. Cabinet building turned from a hobby to a job.But I injoyed it. I use alot of diff way to put cabinets together, I like th Kerr Jig it great to put cabinets together hold good without useing glue and if you use glue good luck taking it apart.

Hi Faraj - There are two problems with those screws and the Kreg system. First is the tapered seat on the heads. The Kreg leaves a flat bottomed hole and, being relatively close to the edge of the stock, the tapered seat could force a split in the stock when to try to tighten it down. The other issue is that those screws are not self tapping which could also lead to splitting issues. The self tapping issue could be worked around by following the initial drilling with a pilot hole for the root of the screw. Problem with that is it is an extra step which would negate any speed advantage of the system and still not resolve the issue of the tapered head.

What about the pilot hole diameter 4mm and the screw's diameter 3mm?Is this a problem too?

Are you talking about the pilot on the Kreg bit being 4mm? The pilot hole left from the Kreg bit being 4 mm wouldn't be an issue, you would need to deepen that into your recieving stock with about a 1.5 to 2mm bit to provide room for the root of the screw.

If I'm not wrong, the pilot bit's diameter is  3/16" diameter and the same for  Kreg R3 Pocket Hole System
and Mini Kreg Jig ?

I have Kreg HD for main components and looking for smaller size for the rest of wood elements.

Hi I'm Mark
I used to do a lot of woodworking but have not in the last 6 or 7 years when I seen the Kreg Jig I was amazed on how it took joinery to another level. Well in short it has inspired me to get back into woodworking my wife is very thrill she already has a list for me. I'm in the process of getting my wood shop back together also upgrade my table saw I'm kinda back and forth either a hybrid or a cabinet saw. I can't wait to get started and start building I got the kreg master system and very anxious to use it.

Hello, all.  I'm Jonathan from southeastern NC.  I am a broadcast engineer at a TV station, but my passion is woodworking.  I don't have the time to do as much as I would like to, but any time I get a chance, I'll build something even if it's just a little shelf or something.  I've owned a Kreg Jig for some time now and try to use it as much as I can.  After I get me a shop of some sort built and as time permits I hope to turn out some things.  Take care.

I repair and refinish furniture here in the San Antonio area. I find that the Kreg system is sometimes the only way to economically salvage a piece of damaged furniture.

On occasion a dowel, loose tenon, or simple screw will do. The pocket screw, however, is the most often used repair technique.

There is a lot of bad furniture design out there and that stuff finds its way into my shop.

I my name is Ron and I am new to this community.  I have done several small items, mostly repairs using the Kreg screws & jig.  I have run into a small problem and am looking for advise.  I am repairing a chair which broke the other day.  After looking at the glue joints they apparetnly didn't use much glue and it was held together by dowl pins.  One of the things they use are support block at the corners and what they did was saw curf's in the each of the rails and then put block of wood across the corners with saw curf's also cut into them to match and then the seat is held on by four screws going through these corner blocks.

 

What I need to do is glue these blocks back in, but I would like to reinforce the joint but I am not sure about using a kreg screw pocket because I am afraid I will get into the saw curfs and end up with no shoulder for the screw to hold onto.  Any thoughts?
