can you use kreg screws in MDF particle board?

Has any one used Kregg for securing MDF particle board?  If so, which type of screw holds best and do you have any  tips about using the kreg products with MDF and/or any problems with the durability of the joint?

''MDF'' and ''particle board'' differ in construction.

You want to secure MDF to what?

No wood screw, or the like,  will hold reliably in MDF.

MDF is much more likely to split if you do try to use screws.

I built 4 large and deep drawers in my workbench out of 3/4" MDF and Kreg system.  They are overloaded with tools and stuff.  They have lasted with no problem for four years.  In fact they were my first Kreg project.

I also used no glue to help hold things together.  Just Kreg.

I have also built projects out of MDF using the Kreg system without problems. I typically glue the joints though.

I use glue too. Since I'm so cheap, I usually remove half of the screws after the glue dries.

Prior to reading the posts here, I wouldn't have chosen MDF but now I think I'll give it a try!  Coarse screws would be the proper one's to use in MDF but others make think differently.

SPAX, advertises screws for use in MDF.

NOTE:  adequate depth and thread engagement is essential---

they're only for light duty applications.

A ''pin nailer'' is effective to hold some objects in place, while the glue is drying.

Ken, I use my 18 ga brad nailer for aligning pieces for glue up, but they don't provide any clamping like the pocket screws do.

I don't use or depend on the ''pins'' for clamping---

only to hold the objects in place for glue-ups, or,

to hold the object in place, until I can get the clamps on.

  I haven't yet found a need to ''pin'' objects, when using pocket hole joinery.

  Most times I work by myself, and while working with long or large pieces,

I have to come up with ways to accomplish a task single-handedly.

Ken, we are both then doing the same thing.

NOPE---I leave the screws installed and in-place.

I don't want customers to learn I have a ''screw missing''.
