Edgebanding Pocket Holes

Someone please help?? i have the kreg jr.  I am trying to edgeband a 1/2 birch with a 1x3. I put the settings on the kreg jig for 1/2 inch. The screw comes out the middle. But when I try to attach the 1 x3 with 1 1/4 screw it comes out the top of the edgeband on the skinny side. What am I doing wrong?   I did lay the 1/2 flat down and flushed the 1x3.  Please help?  What should I do?

How much did it go through? Maybe shorter screws? Why not just glue and clamp the edge banding?

I have put a 1-1/4" edgeband on 3/4" plywood shelves using my K4. 

You may have to go down to 1" screws.  Can you post a picture of what you have done?

Thank You RCW, I went ahead and tried the shorter screw to the 1' and it worked great!!!

Thank You Richard, I tried the 1' screws and it worked GREEEAAATTT!! Exactly what I needed.  Ill post pictures of it soon when I can figure out how to..Dont me on the website from my phone.  Thanks again
