Who makes it, and where can you get one?

Hi all,

I'm new to the forum and new to woodworking.  My dad left me his table saw and drill press, both 1950s vintage, but they work.  I decided that I would like to set up a workshop and get creative.  After talking to the folks at my local Woodcraft store, I bought the Kreg Master Pocket Jig System, and a Kreg DVD.

The DVD was "The Pocket Hole Solution To... Router Tables" with John Sillaots.  John recommended buying a table top rather than making one yourself, and I thought that the table top he used for this project looked nice.

My problem is, John never mentioned who makes that top, and after looking at the diagram and cut list, not one mention of the top was there either.  Well, OK, the exploded diagram has it shown in the drawing, labeled as "router table top" - but that's not much help.

I Googled around and was not able to find that top listed or pictured anywhere, never mind where to get one.  Does anyone know (assuming that you have watched the DVD or have seen the photo on the outside of the DVD case) who makes that top, or who sells it?

Ken, do Rockler tracks come with c'sunk holes for attaching?  I can't tell from catalog.

Most all come with the holes countersunk for #6 I believe. Be aware there are at least two sizes of t-track out there, the standard (sometimes called Heavy duty) uses 5/16" hardware and the "mini" which uses 1/4" hardware. Check out the Peachtree website, ttrackusa for some pretty good info on t-track.

     I just finshed up building this cabinet. The top I have on mine is from Rockler. It works just fine with this setup. It was a fun build. Enjoy your build.

Yes, the Rockler tracks feature countersunk holes, to accommodate flat head screws.

The tracks I purchase from Rockler, accommodate 5/16'' and 1/4'' size bolts---

5/16 & 1/4''  ''T'' bolts and 1/4'' hex-head bolts.

The cross-section of Rockler's track design, will suffice for almost all clamping operations,

in wood working operations.

I have yet to use them, in clamping jigs, for saw cutting logs or railroad ties.

Right Ken - Forgot about that. I was ordering t-track from where ever had it on sale for awhile, Rockler, Peachtree, MLCS, Hartville tool...... Sorta found out the hard way that all t-track is not made the same:-(. I try to stick with Rockler as it will accept both but have, maybe 10 or 12 feet of Hartville tools' red stuff on hand right now. It takes 1/4".

The tracks can be installed in many wood working surfaces---

just route the appropriate slot and screw-em-down.

On occasions when I need a handy or specialized work surface or station, 

I cut up some plywood or mdf to applicable size---

mill a slot(s)---

fasten the track---

clamp the work station in place, ---

and ''do-it''.

Need an auxiliary work surface---

...for your work bench ?

...your saw horse(s) ?

...portable work stands?

These are the way to go.

I made an auxiliary work surface, 24'' x 24'' x 1'' thick, for a drill press.

Located several tracks, spaced at 4'' apart, and

bolted the fixture to the drill press table.

This fixture turned out to be very efficient. 

Sorry, I don't have any pics---but, I'm sure you can visualize it. 

The 1/4'' size is most suitable for most smaller tasks at hand.

I keep a good assortment of 1/4" hex head bolts and 't-bolts'', 1" to 4'', on hand.

One can make clamping knobs by 

inserting a 1/4-20 ''T-nut'' into a block of wood.

Machine a block of wood---a suitable size for various clamping tasks---

shapes such as rounds, rectangles, ovals, crank styles, etc---

the list can go on-and-on.
