Trouble with entertainment base

Hi, I'm new to this forum and have a question. I'm building a small entertainment center for our LCD TV and components. I am building a 4 inch tall base that has mitered cuts (some are 22.5 degrees) because it is sitting in a corner at an angle. Don't know if I'm explaining this right, but is it possible to use pocket holes to join vertical miter cuts as opposed to 'picture frame' style miters? In a test that I did, the pocket hole severed through the miter cut and just left a groove in the wood.

I build a lot of cabinets nd entertainment centers. sometimes,keeping it simple,is easier and faster. Start by making a base that will be covered with finish material. Base material can be plywood.2x stock,1x stock,whatever you choose. once the base is made,cover the base with finish material,that matches your project.This way you can cut,miter,but joint,whatever,and air nail the trim pieces onto the base.

Thanks everyone for your replies. Once I figured out how to do these angles, it was magical how well they come out. I do have a suggestion for the Kreg people though. On your video, you don't follow through on the next step of trimming the excess board when doing odd angles. I didn't realize this until I read the actual instructions rather than watching the video. I thought that the video was showing a decorative woodworking technique that had that overhang intentionally. I wonder if other people see the same thing. Anyway, now that I have figured it out, it really is remarkable how you can get a near 'seamless edge'.

I have to agree with John about the Kreg video, I just built a corner cabinet and was somewhat confused by the video. It wasn't until I read the post from the Kreg rep that I was able to figure it out. I also thought the overhang was some sort of design.
