Shoulder Drill Bit

I am a newbie to this forum. My Kreg K3 Master is on the way to me. I read somewhere that it is a good idea to have a "spare" drill bit just in case. I was looking today at Home Depot and they have one by GENERAL.

My question is this - for a spare, would the GENERAL brand be acceptable? It is a 3/8" shoulder bit with locking collar and allen wrench.

Yep, it's a good idea to have a spare bit around in case you drill into a nail or screw or something and dulI the one you are using in the middle of a job. I usually just get the Mini Kreg Jig Kit. Comes with the bit, collar, wrench, and the Mini Jig as well for about a dollar more than the bit alone. Of course this means I have spare Mini Jigs around but it makes it easy to find one when I need it. I also keep spare bit drivers on hand, they do wear out.

well your problem was going to home depot since they carry just a few items if that of the kreg brand, instead go next door to lowes and get yourself a second kreg drill bit, since lowes seems to carry a few more items than home depot does, or if your lucky enough to live close to a woodcrafters then you'll be able to see pretty much the full line as well as the full assortment of wood plugs as well as the plastic ones. and for the price you cant really complain spending just a few more bucks to get the original drill bit as a back up. me personally i have 3 bits, 1 for current jobs, the second as a back up, and the third is usually in between coming and going back to kreg for resharpening for just a few bucks, so treat yourself to a few new drill bits this year and tell just tell the wife you'll make her something pretty, that usually gets me wife approval for any purchases i make on kreg tools. just a thought...

and just so there's no confusion that was "woodcraft" store, not woodcrafters, im in the south so we add that country twang to everything, sorry. :)

Yes it will work, but make sure you get the flat bottom drill and not the taperhead screw drill, been there done that, my bad.

Thank you sir for your advice. I will pick up at least one spare bit and bit driver. One never knows when it will be needed.
