I'm the perfect storm as far as a router newbie goes. I purchased a router table and a router, I am wanting to know how I can rabbit an edge but with the condition that the edge along the length (about 6 inches from each side of the board) remain uncut. I guess what I'm asking if there's a way to start cutting from the middle of the board.

Using the starter pin and a bearing router bit. Depending on the length make sure the whole piece is supported. Mark the ends then start as close to the end as possible. Stopping where you need it to stop. You can go a short distance in the opposite direction to get the exact rabbit just be careful. The router can grab the board right out of your hand. I have run the length of a board and then went back and glued in a piece cut to fit before.
Hope this helps

Frank , you can buy an edge guide for the router , but you must pull the router off the table , may be a pain for you but a lot safer and you can start from the 6 " mark and go to the other 6 " mark , I have one set up just for this , hope this helps , JIM !!
Can you set a stop block on your fence so you can't rout past the 6" mark then just chisel the end of the rabbit square? You may have to make a back rout cut for the opposite end if your work piece is too long. Just reset your stop on the other side of the bit & very carefully rout the other end. I would suggest making 1/8" deep cuts & sneaking up on your final depth since you're new to this.
I also like to make these cuts at a lower RPM if your router speed is adjustable. I use a DeWalt & do all my initial routing on 3 then make a light finishing pass on 5. Let us know how things worked out for you!!

Hi. I'm wondering if anyone has used the Woodpecker Free Hand Guard for dust collection on their bench top router table during pattern routing. How effective is it? It's adaptable to any router table. Continue

I saw the video Kreg put out for this new jig and had high hopes for it.
I purchased one today and am very disappointed with it.
First the docking station is extremely cheap. The plastic is pathetic. A Lego has more…
