Kreg Toolboxx System

I was wanting to find out some more info on this kit, but I could not find any thing on it at http://www.kregtool.com/.

Oh so busted! It always gets me when companies simply take a cheap product, slap their colors and logo on it and jack the price up 3 fold... not just singling out Kreg here, Festool is probably the real king of 'brand jacking'.

 

Don't get me all wrong here, the Kreg case is quite nice but unfortunately I don't see it as being much better than the case that they had before..... after all, you are best to mount your Kreg Jig to a base to use it properly, right? 

 

If Kreg really wanted to make a useful and proprietary containment system for their tools then they should have made the tool useful while still in the case; essentially they could have modeled their branded [plastic] case after some of the excellent wooden/metal examples of cases & bases shown by members right here on this very website!

 

Hey Kreg, way to overlook your greatest asset when designing a new product. Better luck next time.

I want one, why the limited availability?

I didn't take the time to do all of the math but just basing the price of the Kreg screws at $5.00 per hundred and the tool box and screw set has approximately 800 screws which would cost about $40 just for the screws wouldn't that leave about $20 for the tool box which isn't overpriced, compared to the larger Husky box?

As you can see in some of the replies, there are other such boxes from other suppliers available. I got mine at Home Depot for $30.00. Not only cheaper but it is 2" deeper, more space. The one Home Depot offers is from Husky. I have seen one of the replies lable it "junk" He just looked at it as I read it. I have owned mine for 1yr+ and have not found such to be true. My only mistake is not buying 2. I will get a second and possibly a third.

I guess it depends on what you are building, but I have found it so much easier to clamp my wood and move the jig than vis versa.  I have a Rockler clamp that can stabilize a full sheet of plywood (and all sizes up to that).

home depot was selling this same tool box no tools or screws for about $30.00

Why spend 60.00 for a kreg labels box? I have a box that I use that I bought from Costco for 10.00 that looks almost exactly like the box they are selling..  I guess if you are going to buy the kreg tool with the box it is great..

Did you forget that it comes with $30 or $40 worth of screws? 

 

I already know what I'm going to do - buy the more expensive version with all the stuff, and then give my old one away to my brother for Christmas or his birthday. New toolbox and a new jig!

hehehe, I guess it is but I just wasn't thinking of a jawhorse as a clamp... more like a workstation... Nice units.
