Cabinet Hardware Jig - Brad Point Bit vs. Regular Twist Bit

The recent Cabinet Hardware Jig post got me wondering if Kreg Cabinet Hardware Jig users have found a preference for a specific type of drill bit (such as brad point vs. regular twist) when drilling holes for cabinet doors & drawers.

From what I've read it helps to put plywood or similar material on the back of the door/drawer to limit tear out. 

I'll be installing European TT-type handles. I've read suggestions to align the end of the handle with the bottom/top of the top/bottom rail (the horizontal cross-board) when the handles are placed at the top/bottom of the door, rather than aligning the hole itself at that place ... if any of that makes sense.

Or would you align the hole with the inner edge of the rail and have the end overlap the rail more?

Brad point is my choice.

Lately I have used a plastic cutting board, no splinters from that and it is easy to replace from the local $2 shop.

I would align the end with the rail and centred on the rail your drilling.

I installed 14 pulls like those on 2 different cabinets in the bathroom. I made my own jig from 1/2" ply & two 3/4" cleats. I drilled a 1/8" hole in the jig. Every drawer is the same size so I just drilled the 1/8" hole thru the jig & drawer front. I used a forstner bit on the inside to countersink the screw/bolt head. Then I re-drilled the 1/8" hole 1/16" larger than the  pull screws/bolts from the front. Tear out hidden under the screw/bolt head inside the drawer.
