i have a pc 893 combo set with an extra fixed base 1 base stays mounted in my router table, it has been a good setup for over a year now but now the router wont lock in place, even with the locking leverf lipped I can adjust the router up and down. i removed it and compared it with the other fixed base I have and could not see any difference in them. Has anyone else encountered this problem or should I just use this as an excuse to buy a really nice lift

Is there an adjustment screw for the clamping tension? My Freud needs a tweak every six months or so.

thanks John, I think that that was the problem there is a little torx head screw that runs through the clamp, a gave it a turn or two and it seems to be just fine now. I might try a drop or two of loc-tite on it

It's always a good idea to take the motor out too and clean the threads where it goes into your housing every so often.

thanks justin, but i always am moving it from the table to the plunge router base, i also spray it down with silicone. i have three other routers but i always go to this one. i love the soft start on it

Glad to hear you got it. Word of caution on the Loctite. Make sure you use the blue stuff (medium strength). The red or green stuff needs heat or impact to loosen it.

Also would mention that many take a dim view of silicone, especially spray, in a woodshop. It moves around very easily and the tiniest amount can ruin a piece for finishing. No amount of sanding seems to be able to remove it. I use Dry Graphite Spray I get from NAPA. It's kinda messy to uses, sorta like black cheap spray paint
but once there it stays put and doesn't rub off on other stuff. Well, maybe it would, I haven't tried that very hard but it seems to work well for me.

Yesterday around this time i posted this question, after I posted it here I went to the porter cable web site and pretty much posted the same question to their customer service, Well to my surprise I recieved a phone call from a gentleman named steve with porter cable and although by ths time I was told were to look to solve my problem Steve with porter cable could not have been a nicer person..My kuddos to porter cable for such a quick response. It is things like this that just might influence my next tool purchase.

As well it should. Congratulations on getting something that  has become ever less frequent: Customer Service. Two other companies that have been like that for me are MLCS and Freud.

Like one poster suggested  dry graphite This is all I use on my table saw ,planner anything that moves with a gear Like tilt on saw or up and down .It will not allow  sawdust to stick to any gear. Also if your in ice country we used to use dry in door locks ,
