My first thought was some kind of pine based on the grain pattern, color and some irregularities in how the finish has been absorbed.
But after saving the picture and enlarging it I feel differently. It appears to be a pine or pine looking veneer on a particle board substrate. In an enlarged picture there are what appears to be definite lines at the top and bottom of the edge of the piece. And there is a noticeable lack of grain pattern in the edge of the piece.
Perhaps you could provide a little more information about the picture, that could provide some additional clues.

That make sense its a bed frame being repurposed to a garden bench with varnish or whatever was put on it sanded away. The lack of grain was confusing to me. Thanks Don not good news . I though it was solid wood. I thought maybe ash.
All is not lost Gary. Once you determine what the veneer is you can get a solid piece of wood and use that to edge the piece covering the now exposed particle board using something like Rockler's Bandy clamps. To help figure out what the veneer is try using the Woodworkers Source website. www.woodworkerssource.com They have pictures of almost every species of wood available.
After looking it could be either pine, ash, or birch. they all have similar grain patterns and color in the pictures from woodworkers source. However, after looking at the pictures from your previous post about bed frames I'm leaning toward it being a pine veneer. The bed frame pictured in your other post has a country inspired look, and country inspired furniture is frequently constructed from pine.
Perhaps a quick trip to the local home center can provide you with a small piece of 1 by pine. Stain it and some of the veneer, then compare the grain and the color.

I saw the video Kreg put out for this new jig and had high hopes for it.
I purchased one today and am very disappointed with it.
First the docking station is extremely cheap. The plastic is pathetic. A Lego has more…
