Kreg Owners' Community

I'm adding wainscoting to my foyer, hall, and stairs (my first project with my Kreg Jig). I build the frame from 1x3, 1x4, 1x6 and use my Kreg K4 to connect the pieces. I build each wall section and then nail it to the wall. The first three wall sections went fine but now I have a wall section in the hall that goes along the stairs. I need to drill pocket holes at the end of boards where they have been cut at angles to fit along the stairs (see picture). Is there a way to use my K4 to drill the holes at angles other than 90 or 45?

If you are going to drill the holes where the mark,s are on the short board , you should be able to set them on the jig base and drill them , but would try it first on a scrap board the same size , hope this help,s , JIM !!

You should be able to drill pocket holes with no problem. The key is figuring out where to locate them to ensure that the screws won't poke through the narrow portion of the miter. Check the tips shown in the owner's manual (image attached below). Also, as Jim suggested, do some experimenting in scrap stock.

A couple of suggestions:

Potentially raise the heel off of the jig, as shown below. You could make a simple spacer to do this consistently if you have a bunch to do.

Use a shorter screw in the on  the narrow portion of the miter. It looks like you are using 1x stock, which would normally call for a 1-1/4" screw. You could use that on the larger side, and a smaller 1" screw on the narrower side.

Again, the key is a bit of experimenting in some scrap to see what works best.
