Dust Collection Systems

I'm looking for some recommendations on dust collection systems.  I usually do most cutting/sanding outside but it's too cold for that now.  Any thoughts?

It might be a good investment but is it about same price or more? One thing it takes no floor space,Yrs ago I built a small colletor using a squirel cage from a clothes dryer and it was soso.ill try find web page I found it at,http://www.fishcarver.com/making_a_dust_collector.htm
This is not your real powerful collector but was fun to build

HF had a smaller model and I bought one and took it back because it was not strong enough.  You might check out their web site and see what the small looks like.  I do a lot of planing and need extra capacity so I went with the big HF model and I have had it for about 7 years.

I have the Oneida Dust Deputy attached to an older Craftsman shop vac.  It works very well on  planer, jointer, table saw and router with just the finest of the dust making it through to the vac filter.  MUCH better than cleaning/replacing the filter every few days.  My only complaint is static.  My shop is in the basement which is cool and very dry in winter.  The static can give you a good wallop.  I've tried some rudimentary grounding but have had little success.  Still looking for better static control.

Well I finally have my dust collector up and running. I still have to hook up some of the attachments but I love it. I have the rockler expandable hose and I have the cyclone top for a trash can, This things clean like nothing I ever seen before, I have the rockler floor sweep attachment and it is great, I was able to get the harbor freight collector for 139.00 and I had to build it in place, it stands 75'' tall and to make it fit in my basement it had to come up in between 2 floor joices to the first floor, it cleans and is no were near as noisy as a shop vac,after I get everything hooked up I'll post some pictures

 the Rockler wall mounted dust collector is the one i use , i have mounted on a wooden board with a virtical back and wheels so i can move it all over the place.

  Worth a look at price $199.00 +you will nead a 4 in" flex and scoop.

  try a thin copper wire ,tape it to your flex hose and back to your motor,clip it both ends to make a good earth.

I agree with Jens. I got mine from grizzly but it looks the same if its 1 1/2 hp. does a great job with 22 in wide belt sander, planer, jointer and router. only draw back is mine is 220 volt, simple fix, run one or two 220 outlets. havent tried the cyclone attachment, have it but just got into my new shop and like you its too cold to work there until i get a furnace this spring. i use metal flex dryer duct for hose, plastic hose will gernerate static electricity. i stripped a 12 awg wire and put it over the intake and attached to metal frame to ground the unit and this stopped the static electricity. compare grizzly and harbor, harbor is 100 cheaper
