I recently purchased the new K5 jig and read the directions about its proper use. When I attempted to raise the handle and hear the two clicks that the directions said would happen after my workpiece was in place, I heard no clicking sound and no discernible change in the mechanism. My workpiece can be fastened to the jig when I set the piece and push down on the handle, but the pressure I exert for this to happen seems inordinate.
I called Kreg technical support and they were happy to send a new mechanism which arrived several days later. After installing the new piece I tried using the jig as directed and continue to get the same result.
It's hard to picture hat two jigs would be defective so I'm figuring I must be doing something to cause this. Any ideas about what's happening or solution to this? I'm concerned that if I continue using as is I may break the mechanism.

Lee,
Before you are lifting the handle, are you holding your clamp in place against your work piece? If not, you will not feel the clicks the manual is referring to. Have you watched the K5 instructional video on how to set everything up? I have posted the link below. It shows this step in the process and I think it will help you understand what it means.

Hi Lee,
If i understand the info on your clamping process while using your K5, you're not able to hear any ratcheting style "clicks" when unlocking your workpiece. To the best of my knowledge, the click sounds only occur when you lock the workpiece in, not when you unlock the clamp. Truthfully, i adjust the clamp's adjustable screw in such a manner that doesn't allow the click to occur, especially on thinner stock. Hope this helps, and feel free to clarify if my understanding of the issue is incorrect. Thanks and good luck.

Thank you Joel and KregCS for your feedback. After fiddling with the jig I discovered that the clamping mechanism needs to be held against the work piece when cocking the handle. When that is done the clicks are heard and the handle can be depressed to secure the piece. Such an easy solution!

Hi. I'm wondering if anyone has used the Woodpecker Free Hand Guard for dust collection on their bench top router table during pattern routing. How effective is it? It's adaptable to any router table. Continue

I saw the video Kreg put out for this new jig and had high hopes for it.
I purchased one today and am very disappointed with it.
First the docking station is extremely cheap. The plastic is pathetic. A Lego has more…
