Anyone interested in the chest plans feel free to contact me. I have a local place I get my lumber from that's very reasonable so the prices may fluctuate based on that, but it takes roughly 16 board feet to make minus the top. If a solid top it takes roughly 20 board feet. The ones I made out of oak I used a 3/4 in ply topped wrapped in solid oak banding that worked out with a 3/8 roundover. You can use rail and stiles for the panels or for flat panels I use 1/4 in. ply and a slotting bit on my router. The chest measures 22x42x18. A chest out of oak generally runs about $150 and cherry $175, I have made 3 this year, one as a hope chest for my 18 year old daughter and 2 for friends for their wives for Christmas. Rockler has brass plates that I have put on them with the names and Christmas 2009. Here's a material list to start:
16 to 20 bd ft lumber
2 boxes of tongue and groove cedar lining (takes almost the whole 30 sq ft.)
1 30 in. piano hinge
1 lid support
2 2x4 1/4 in. oak ply (if cherry, i used rockler for cherry veneer packs $15)
1 2x4 3/8 in MDF (for bottom)
KREG JIG and screws!!!

Hey folks, I'm sorry I'm just now getting back on here. I lost the plans in my laptop when it crashed, but I am trying to take measurements off of the one that I have so I can post them on here for everyone. Sorry for the delay>

Thanks Justin , when you have a chance I would like the plans fredo649@hotmail.com  Thanks.

Could you send plans? Great looking chest.....

I have had a horrible time trying to get these plans done, but this is what I'm going to do as long as everyone can be patient with me.  I am going to build another chest and document every step through photos and do a "my project".  This chest can be made from lumber at your local "box" wood store.   I will get started in 2 weeks after Christmas more than likely and do a post every week.  I do appreciate everyone's patience and I will start a post in 2 weeks.

Thanks as well I would love a set of plans for my brand new grand daughter..... bcarlin88@yahoo.com

I just joined the community and found your comments on the chest.  If it is not too late, I would like a copy of your plans.  I really love the chest and have many women in my family who will each want one, from  my wife to daughters, in-laws, and grand daughters.  I love making gifts for them.

Thank you ever so much.
