Kreg K5 Jig - wood thickness formula

Hi,

I start to build my first project and I just bought the Kreg K5 jig :)

The project planning applies to use 15mm thickness (plywood) but I couldn't find so I used 17mm thickness (which actually was 16.5mm).

When I tried drilling pocket holes using the K5, I encounter with some spacing issues.

In the K5 guide was suggested to adjust the drill to 3/4 inches and use 25mm screws.

What I'm asking is, if someone familiar with a simple formula for using the pocket holes kit?

If I want to joint 17mm with 14mm or 15mm with 23 mm - how to adjust the K5 for drilling the accurate pocket holes.

The general rule of thumb when working with two different thicknesses is that you will want to set everything up for your thinner thickness. For example, if you are joining 3/4" and 1 1/2" material, you would set up for 3/4" and use a 1 1/4" screw. 

In your case, when working with 14 and 15mm material, you will want to set everything up for 1/2". If you have any other questions, please let us know.
