I got the K4 master system so I have the different parts that come with it.  I was looking at the plans for a jig station and it said they use 1/2" boards and the MICRO JIG. But the regular K4 will work with 1/2" boards also. So why use the micro size? When I first saw it I assumed it would be used for projects where the thickness is under 1/2" but that doesn't seem to be the case. The main difference seems to the the hole diameter being smaller by 25%. Why would I decide to use (or even buy) the micro jig if I can't use thinner boards?

If I wanted to build a bird house using 1/2" plywood which I think is 3/8" thick can I do it with the micro jig?

I am not a skilled woodworker so the answers to some of my questions are probably obvious to a lot of you guys and gals.  In general, when would you use a micro size instead of the standard size?  Help from you guys is greatly appreciated.

Hi Jack,
The Kreg Jig® K4 is designed to work with material that is 1/2" to 1-1/2" thick. The
Micro-Pocket™ Drill Guide is designed to work with 1/2" stock and narrow stock down to 1"-wide. Both jigs are compatible with 1/2" stock. If you need any further advice, feel free to reach out to Kreg Technical Support by calling 800-447-8638 or by emailing technicalsupport@kregtool.com. Thanks, and have a great day!

The reg jig will work fine, the Micro will give you a neater, more finished look.  Kreg offers smaller screws also, sized for the Micro.

1/2" plywood measures 31/64", not 3/8,  all plywood is slightly under nominal size, but not that much.

I made a little doggie trough for our pup using the micro on 1/2" plywood. What was really nice was that the holes are so much smaller, and you can use smaller screws.

I've used my standard jig on the same 1/2" stock but it gets a little messy. Drill some test holes in the smaller stock, you'll see what i mean :)

Free Hand Guard (dust collection)

Hi.  I'm wondering if anyone has used the Woodpecker Free Hand Guard for dust collection on their bench top router table during pattern routing.  How effective is it?  It's adaptable to any router table.  Continue

New Kreg 720Pro

I saw the video Kreg put out for this new jig and had high hopes for it.

I purchased one today and am very disappointed with it.

First the docking station is extremely cheap. The plastic is pathetic. A Lego has more…
