What wood is the best to use for garage cabinets?

Hello everybody. I am new to the Kreg world and was hoping to get a little help in choosing the right kind of wood to make garage cabinets. I will be making a 6' 8' H x 64" W standing cabinet and 8'-long upper cabinets. Also making a 6' workbench. I just purchased the Kreg K4 Jig and the Kreg HD Jig. Any info, help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Wayne three quarter plywood usually a popular choice ,easy to work with strong and durable . Can be painted and fairly inexpensive compared to some materials. Place a face frame on the cabinets gives it that professional look , hope this helps .

Thanks so Much Michael, I was thinking 3/4 birch.The Price for a 4x8 now for me in FL. is $50.00 I was wondering if I should use all birch or maybe something a little less just for the cabinet doors? Once again, Thank You for your Fast response, Wayne

Hi Wayne , Here;s is a thought ... I did the same thing making a work bench but after I finished I put a piece of brown masonite on the top of the work area , then I tacked a 1in x 1/4 strip of pine around the side's.It makes for a nicer work space and when the piece of Masonite wares out I just replace it . Hope this helps , Dave

Hi Wayne , as for the doors ,it really depends on what finish your aiming for .Birch ply although expensive takes stain or paint pretty well . Panel doors are very cost effective ,make a frame using the Kreg jig 2"x1" rout a dado on the inside or a rabbet and place a panel of quarter inch ply in the frame . Most quarter inch ply I have came across has a pretty smooth finish on it , go steady Mick.
