Bench Klamp System Directions?

I have purchased the hold down clamp with the blue aluminum pad that gets inserted into a table.  I cannot figure out how to use it.  Can anyone help?

I made a holder out of wood for the aluminum insert, so I could clamp it to a work surface. Somehow that messes up the geometry of the clamp. I think I might have to actually put the insert into the worksurface (?)

Al, your Klamp System should have come with instructions. Did yours not?
