Kreg Owners' Community

I bought this tool 40 yrs ago

This tool works great with kreg jig. Two things it does well with kreg jig you can drive screws faster in tight spots much like using the small ratchet which some have suggested. I just started using with my battery drill with clutch set to low setting  when using on 3/4 stock  and final tightening with this driver. This a ball handle screw driver mine was called a screwball driver. Some of you may have had them this was the most powerful hand driver I ever owned.

It is rugged built amazing driver talk about torq this is it. I searched the web and found what looks similar could be even improved. I don't know if it is same quality. I am afraid it was not taken seriously when came out because its name. I believe it was manufactured by Crescent. There is a video in web page.

This is the best hand screwdriver I have owned. I was having trouble removing some old shelf brackets in my shed  my power drivers was mangling the heads. Not this screwdriver they came out with ease .  I had wasted 1/2 hr previously and made no headway in about 5 minutes I had removed all the brackets. This as real high torque no slipping.

Oh my gosh!  I have one like that.  Or at least something very similar.  Never gave a thought to using it tho.  It seems like you get accustomed to using a certain set of tools and your old favorites get lost in a drawer somewhere.   I will for certain hunt it down!

Hi Gary, I have two of these, one large and one small.  Both have the Phillips head on one end and the flat blade on the opposite end.  the shafts separate from the ball and you can use a wrench on the shank for added leverage.  I have had them for several years and you are right you can get a good amount of leverage on them as the big ball lets you lean into them with you palm rather that the requiring your grip to push the driver into the screw.

The ones I have are called "easy driver" made by Creative tools Inc  in Bennington Vt.

You are right Jay my memory is faulty. The company was Creative tool Inc not Crescent. I bought mine from US general tools 40 years ago.

I think I am going to order some from the web site in my post. I will let everyone know if they are the same quality as the ones we have.

B y the way Jay you still can buy the smaller version from Toolmonger just search easydriver screwdriver. I did order the QVC set my neighbor wanted one after he tried mine.

I received my new ball drivers yesterday from
QVC. They appear to be well made. However, probably not as rugged as the original. It is easier to change direction on the ratchet just turn the bottom of the ball. They are much smaller than the original. The length of the driver is adjustable. Just pull down on the caller under the ball, the driver telescopes out. They are much smaller than the original, but probably fit your hand better. So far they look to be a good product time will tell.

Gary,

Anxiously awaiting the test results of your new "ball driver".

Gary,

What other tools get you excited?

I guess you could say I am excited about kreg clamps the old and the new self adjusting. I use them for every clamping need to holding stock to cut biscuit joints .  ALign and mark my biscuit joints . To hold assemblies together to put regular screws . The kreg joints assembly. Those clamps are so versatile I use them for everything.

Of course we all love our pocket hole jigs we are excited about all the things we can much easier do now .

I have a broken windshield wiper blade arm---haven't tried the clamp on that, yet.

I think I get most excited when I learn of a use for something that it was not actually designed for.  For example,  I think Jay recently had mentioned electrical tape for a little extra pressure when needed on awkward joints.  I recently used it while holding a miter joint on a crown molding for on top of a cabinet.  Worked like a charm and I picked up more tape just last night :)
