OKreg! I use to do pocket holes by measuring carefully and then back-drilling from the end in the stock at about 5 to 10 degrees. Of course I didn’t have a pocket shoulder to drill up against unless I oversized the hole from the other side after. Then I discovered “Da Jig” and now I’m looking for more projects to use it.  I also discovered that ‘it ain’t all that simple’ to use always and I made a few mistakes.  I also know that ‘all woods are not created equal’, plus some are dry, some are moist, and where you drill is important (along the grain in the side of the grain), also, how close to the end the screws enter the adjoining piece.  Still, it’s such an amazing devise and the idea is grand, so I like to use it; from bookends to benches, and beds.  Seeing all the interesting comments on the site, I had an ‘epiphany’; am now preparing some salutary recommendations four our friends and pals here on the site. We have all heard of the 7 Ps of a Project, well this will be labeled the ‘7 Ks’ of a project [the seven Keys of a project] for the mighty Kreg Jig. Watch for it coming soon on this site ;-)

Does anyone have any recommendations?

The 7 Ps is a British Army adage:

  • Proper Planning and Preparation Prevents Piss Poor Performance

It's actually the US Seabees I understand and it's Proper Prior Planning Prevents P Poor Performance, but I actually came up with 10, Anyway, we are off subject, and I may have 10 Keys of the Kreg jig... LOL

I need 7 keys for my Kreg jig--I keep losing the dang thing, and then I can't adjust the depth collar!! ;)

you mean the little Allen Key... come on now! LOL

My 'keys' will be mental "keys for success"... hey! you've just given me an idea about that...

Now, about your 'allen key', why don't you tape a string to it and hang it in the same place after you use it. Do you have the same difficulty with your other stuff? ;-)

I'm just kidding around, Pierre.  Everybody know that Allen keys grow legs and run away when you're not looking.

Actually, one of my favorite Allen key keepers is a magnet on the side of my benchtop box--keeps 'em handy, and no strings to fiddle with.  But I didn't mean to hijack the thread.  We now return you to your regularly scheduled program, already in progress.

Ok... funny guy... we have a lot of comedians among woodworkers making sawdust... I was kidding also with my last question about your 'other tools' ha ha. ;-)

Jeff,

Why not use a tool pouch with pockets or an apron---

just put it in there, and carry it on you.

Works for me.

Free Hand Guard (dust collection)

Hi.  I'm wondering if anyone has used the Woodpecker Free Hand Guard for dust collection on their bench top router table during pattern routing.  How effective is it?  It's adaptable to any router table.  Continue

New Kreg 720Pro

I saw the video Kreg put out for this new jig and had high hopes for it.

I purchased one today and am very disappointed with it.

First the docking station is extremely cheap. The plastic is pathetic. A Lego has more…
