How do I adjust my old model 1703-1 Black & Decker chop saw?

My saw is several years old and seems to work fine, except it is off when I do a miter & they don't fit correctly. I am using a 45% angle, it is frustrating as I don't want to waste my wood. Does anyone have any suggestions about how to adjust it? The fence is solid and doesn't have any adjustment screws.

first thing you would have to know is where are the adjustments for the saw position. your instructions that came with it should have that information. when you know where that adjustment is you can use a 90 degree and 45 degree angle tool to set the blade. use your fence with the 45 degree tool to adjust the position of the blade. lock down the adjustment bolt or screw and test. i hope this makes since.

Thanks Brent, only problem is this was an old one my Dad used to have, my brother gave it to me, but there were no directions. My father is no longer living either. I did hear that there might be an adjustment underneath, do you think that might be it?

I don't have that saw or the instruction manual, but I did some internet searching and came up with the attached diagram of your saw parts.  Somebody might be able to look at the diagram and give you some advice as to what to try to adjust your saw.  Sorry I can't be of more help.

Hmm, that's kinda strange. Usually if they are off at one setting they are off on all of 'em. Does it cut a dead bang 90?

Thanks everyone. To answer your questions, no the 90 degree is off about 1/8th of an inch, There are wood pieces across the fence, but they don't appear to be damaged.  I did have the diagram and did view the video, I wish I had all those adjustments! I am enclosing a picture of the bottom. All the screws/bolts that are showing seem to be permanent ones, not adjustable.

Hi Sherry - that large, black bar doesn't look square to me. Try loosening those two bolt and see if you can rotate the table a little. I'm guessing the bolt holes are slightly larger than the bolts to allow some adjustment there.

Thanks John, my brother in law and I tried this and it worked great, it was off about 1/16th of an inch, who could tell it made all that difference. Also there was a little pointer show the mark, it broke off when we took it apart. We decided to use a file and mark a notch on the metal left behind, I think this will pretty well. I appreciate everyone's help. Now what can I make next? Actually we worked on extending a kitchen island this weekend. Not quite done yet though.

I see how you adjust the miter, but how do you adjust the bevel?   Anyone found a manual?

Are we talking about the same saw? Usually there is a lever on the back side to loosen the bevel set. A lot of the older ones are miter only, you got a bevel by rotating the stock 90°. How about a pic or two. Front and back would be helpful.
