So,not having dealt with fine cabinetry using reclaimed wood,I have found that it is an extremely tedious endeavor..I was tasked with milling and using reclaimed lumber for a custom kitchen in a home located in the Capitol Hill area of D.C...The whole project seemed pretty cut and dry..but what I didnt know was that this was more dry than Ive ever had to deal with..The reclaimed pine was so dry hard and brittle that milling it was a chore on all my machinery, the material was constantly revealing new and bothersome stress cracks from being so dry,and I was finding myself reglueing fractures constantly, sometimes 2-3 times finding more cracks, reglueing constantly..the whole process took 3x the usual time because of the ammount of reglueing and even using the pocket hole system on the face frames with the self tapping screws were ending up with stress fractures...in the end I did win this battle..but the money saved by the homeowner ended up costing on time and labor on the back side of the project..something to think about in using reclaimed materials..

Actually Jens there isn't any stain or oil on the cabinet yet..thats the natural aged patina your seeing on that pine..well in saying natural I mean whatever else may have been spilled, ground into and weathered into the wood, its reclaimed variable width T&G flooring. And as for the question of how far from D.C. I am,I live just outside of Quantico,Va,30 miles south of D,C. on I-95,and the shop is in Fairfax City which is about 12 miles from the city.
