Kreg Workbench

I am getting ready to build the Kreg workbench that they have plans for. Could anyone tell me why they say use two different screw lengths? The material is all the same thickness so I assumed you would use the same screws.

The 2 1/2" screws are for the 2x4 material while the shorter (1 1/4" or 1 1/2") screws are for attaching the bottom shelf and top work surface because they are 3/4" material.

Good Luck, I found the process of building the workbench very enjoyable.

I am also attempting to make it larger. I would like to make it 4'x4'.
