Has anyone else had a problem with the clamp. When I manage to adjust it correctly - not a simple task - it does work well. However, my clamp, which I received as a Christmas gift, regularly has the joint between the shaft and the triangular piece coming apart on a regular basis. I have nearly lost the spring and ball bearing on a couple of occasions I could take it back to the retailer and change it, but I wanted to know if there is a 'cure;'. I wondered if tapping the sleeve that the shaft goes into with a centre punch might firm up the grip. Certainly looking at comments on Amazon this seems to be a common problem.

Any ideas?

I suggest you exchange it. You pay premium money for premium tools, expect it. If we don't stop gripeing about cheap products and start demanding quality for our cash, we may as well get used to living with junk. JMHO

John,

You are quite right, I now need to get the receipt from my wife who kindly purchased the clamp for me at Christmas from a retailer who is some way away. I was just wondering if there was any thoughts of a relatively 'easy' fix. Certainly I agree that the quality should be good so that this problem should not occur. However I do agree with your post and I need to go over to Liverpool to return the clamp.

Seems like you got a lemon my friend.  I don't know of any quick fix as mine has never been a problem.  That said....have you tried throwing it in a fit of rage?

I find that often works

I've been tempted……….
I have had simular troubles with mine. It is a great clamp once in place. One heck of a pain to get it there though... Such a pain in fact that I havn't even used it for the last few stages of my project where it might have been useful. Sadlly I do not have the recipt, otherwise I wopuld certainly return it. $34 is too much for a product that works only part of the time.
I have now received a replacement clamp. The ball joint feels OK, but I have not had the opportunity to load it up and check it yet. So I need to keep my fingers crossed that it will not come off.

I agree with Duane, it is a real fiddle to adjust and get it aligned. Great idea, probably could do with some suggested sequence of adjustments to make it really useable and quicker to set up.
