Kreg Owners' Community

I need everyones help. I had that bad accident we all dread. Severe damage to three fingers on the right hand. First finger split in half running about one inch deep from side to side. Middle finger severed nerves, shattered the bone, and exposed bone in 4 or five places. Ring finger nerves severed, bone turned to dust from the impact. I believe the little finger suffered some nerve damage as well.

I need to find out about a saw stop, where can I grt one, will it retrofit on a Craftsman Contractors saw? If any of you have that information please contact me. I got home today, it happened yesterday morning. This may be irelivant, not sure of how much function I have left.  I will keep everyone posted on my progress. Typing lefty is not a lot of fun and not very fast.

Sorry to hear about your accident, and wishing you a speedy recovery.
For the moment there is not a whole lot to be said that has not already been said. I too am very sorry to hear of your injury, and like everyonr else, wish a speedy recovery with the very least amount of disability. My thought will be with you.

Hi William, I hope you have a quick and uneventfull recovery. Awhile back I was a victim of a kickback injury, and I had a really smooth recovery, Hope your's goes the same way.

I don't think there is any sort of retrofit for other saws as far as saw stop is concerned. Over the weekend I saw a saw stop demostration it was amazing, although that's alot of money to put out. Maybe over aa period of time the price will come down and the hobbiest and the person trying to make a livelyhood out of this woodworking thing will be able to afford one.

Again I'm so sorry to hear about your injury and please keep us posted about how your doingRay, thank you for your support, I did write to Whirlwind and am awaiting a reply, I will update any information I get from them. Thanks again for your kind words.

Had simular accident a year and a half ago and its something that will stay with you from now on.  Even using safe practice is no insurance a serious accident will not happen.  So I have purchased a Saw Stop Contractors Saw and just love it.  Set be back $2,000 but much cheaper than the $18,000 in medical bills, 4 mos off work, 8 mos of therapy and loss of some use of my right hand.  Go to the saw stop web site and get all the info you need.  I highly recommend the saw and if you can buy it before your accent happens.

Sorry to hear of about your terrible accident. Hope you have a speedy recovery and get back to the hobby you love. I'll keep you in my prayer's.

I got by with a Craftsman contractor for lo these many years but 2 yrs. ago decided to upgrade. After a lot of research and my wife's input when she found out about the saw stop, I sprung for a new cabinet saw. It is, without a doubt, the finest and safest saw on the market. You can find the demos on their website or at Woodcraft stores. They now make a contractor grade saw for a lot less bucks but I have no regrets. There is no upgrade for other saws and they are pricey but considering your injury, I'd just bet you'd pay for the safety if you could just go back in time. I got mine at a Woodcraft store but if you visit the Saw Stop  website they list their dealers.

Good luck with your recovery and keep on woodworking!!

William,

Sort of randomly found this post. Have you in our prayers here. Remember, eventually you will come to a new physical normal - as well as a psychological normal. When the 2 match up you will feel good. Till then, take time to recover and make your intentions clear about healing and getting back function... so you can keep doing your wood working.

Peace,

Jamie

Jamie, In my working life I was a front line hands on supervisor. I was the one always wanting to incourage the associates that their life will return to normal, as you so wisely put it, A new normal. It is a bit overwhelming being on the recieving end. To know that strangers I have never met, care enough to wish me fast recovery and that I am in your prayers touches my heart.

Sincerely,

William Steinfeldt

Free Hand Guard (dust collection)

Hi.  I'm wondering if anyone has used the Woodpecker Free Hand Guard for dust collection on their bench top router table during pattern routing.  How effective is it?  It's adaptable to any router table.  Continue

I saw the video Kreg put out for this new jig and had high hopes for it.

I purchased one today and am very disappointed with it.

First the docking station is extremely cheap. The plastic is pathetic. A Lego has more…
