Is there any problems with using a impact driver for driving screws?

Just My Opinion....

The Screw Guns usually have a better Setting for Driving Screws....Real Light to Real Rugged...or of course Drill.

The Impact Driver will keep driving the screw all the way through the pocket hole as there usually isn't a Chuck Setting....

I bought a small Milwaukee Cordless screw gun and I'm happy with it,
this way I can set the setting on the clutch on the nose of the screw gun for different settings for Coarse and Fine thread Kreg Screws.

I use impact drivers. Yes, they will overdrive a screw if you let them but you develop a "feel" for when to to stop. On 3/4" pine I generally let off the trigger as soon as I hear the first impact. Hardwoods you can go a bit tighter. I also watch for any gap at the joint and glue squeeze out. Of course if you use the Kreg Jig, Stop Blocks, a high RPM drill for drilling the holes and a drill/driver with a properly set clutch it is purty much fool proof. That is unless there is some natural variation in the density of the material you are working with or the finish of the screws you are using, or any of a number of other factors which could require the operator to use his mind. The sight, feel, and sound all give you hints as to just when you should let go.

Yes, I know "purty" is not a word, but I like it anyway.

You don't need an impact driver. You'll blow right though the wood you're working with. A regular drill with a 'low' speed setting and a clutch works the best

I have several drills and a few impacts, impacts are great for building fences or driving lag bolt.Drills are for your finesse jobs where you cant afford to ruin a work peice with one mistake the clutch is your friend.
