Whether you’re building a new deck or refinishing an old one, you want to do the job right. With the Kreg Deck Jig™ – and a few simple tools you already own – you can create a beautiful and functional deck surface, completely free of exposed fasteners and painful splinters! Traditional concealed-decking systems utilize awkward steel fasteners or thin plastic clips to hold your deck boards in place. The Kreg Deck Jig™ utilizes a more straight forward approach, creating an incredibly strong wood-to-wood bondthrough precisely placed self-tapping screws.

Standard Deck vs. Kreg Deck

Get the deck you want, without any unsightly exposed nails or screws. The Deck Jig’s specialized self tapping screws are driven at a precise angle into the edge of your deck boards so they stay hidden from view. Where seasonal changes might force traditional fasteners out of place with time, Kreg screws stay protected safely below the surface, for a longer-lasting deck. By coupling the Kreg Deck Jig™ with composite decking, you’ll get a deck free of cracks, splinters, and “pop-out” fasteners.

Drill. Drive. Done!

Securing a deck board with the Kreg Deck Jig™ takes only 3 simple steps. First you drill holes into the edge of your deck board using the specialized stepped bit, guided by the jig’s hardened steel drill guides. Next, you drive the specialized self-tapping deck screws through the same drill guides and into the joist as the depth collar precisely controls the depth. That’s it, you’re done! You’ve just created an incredibly strong and sturdy joint with no visible fastener.

Works with a wide variety

of decking materials.

For the best results, we recommend composite deck boards which prevent shrinking/swelling/splitting. Select a solid composite material with no machined grooves. Also works great with native softwoods such as Redwood, Cedar, Pressure Treated Pine, and ACQ, along with certain Tropical Hardwoods like Ipe, Red Balau, and Ironwood.

Deck Screws

Kreg Deck Screws were designed specifically for use with the Kreg Deck Jig™, although they can also be used as simple face-screws for a variety of outdoor projects. All Kreg Deck screws feature a KTX #1 Square Drive to reduce cam-out, a flat-bottom head which resists splitting, and a self-tapping tip which drills its own hole as it’s driven.

Deck Screws are available to two weather resistant finishes; Protec-Kote™ and Stainless. Protec-Kote™ screws feature three anti-corrosion layers protect against rusting in a wide variety of decking applications. A good choice for a wide variety of decking applications, including ACQ treated lumber. For even more protection, choose Stainless. Kreg Stainless screws provide the best protection against corrosion in the long-term.

Purchased jig 4/25 at Lowe's in Knoxville,TN. Built a 16X28 ft PTW deck in 3 days. I am really glad I used this system. It is a lot more time consuming than hammering or screwing through tops of decking boards. But I oh so love the clean look of no exposed heads and no splintering of the woods on the walking surface of the boards. The boards are held down tight and not a single board broke or split from using the special screws. I do wish the plastic was a little heavier grade plastic, although after 57 boards with 26 screws in each and also the same 1482 pre-drillings through the jig it never failed. Nice product, would recommend to anyone that is going to be doing a project. My wife found this jig and told me that we would be using it on our deck. I hate to admit it,but she was right again.

Chris, the Deck Jig works GREAT with ChoiceDeck. The grooves we're concerned about are on the side... boards that are set up for using biscuit-style fasteners. Good luck on the new deck, and don't forget to post photos! (in-progress and complete if you can!)

I understand that it says to use a a solid composite material with no machined grooves - I've just bought ChoiceDek decking which are ribbed on the back side. I'm planning to lay my boards at a 45 degree angle and still think using this system is the best way to go. Has anyone tried it with ChoiceDek materials, or know if I can get away with using it even though the backs are grooved?

Richard,
The answer to your question regarding HOLLOW composite boards, is no. This system will not work if your deck boards are hollow as there is nothing for the screws to secure to. Your boards must be of solid construction, and not feature any sort of 'notching' which is designed for plastic or steel clip type fasteners.

Thanks for all of the great comments, everyone! Looking forward to May so we can get the Deck Jig in your hands and see just what you can build with it! (I think in a few months we're going to see some great new deck photos in this community!)

It should still work, it's still the same basic idea. There;s still gonna be 2 solid sides that the screws will connect to.

Free Hand Guard (dust collection)

Hi.  I'm wondering if anyone has used the Woodpecker Free Hand Guard for dust collection on their bench top router table during pattern routing.  How effective is it?  It's adaptable to any router table.  Continue

New Kreg 720Pro

I saw the video Kreg put out for this new jig and had high hopes for it.

I purchased one today and am very disappointed with it.

First the docking station is extremely cheap. The plastic is pathetic. A Lego has more…
