I buy 5/4 "decking and rip it just under 1 3/4'' to get three Slats . I use 2"X8"and cut the frame out of those. I run it thru my planer to prevent a lot of extra sanding. I predrill all the holes to prevent splitting. It does have some weight to it but not like the wet treated lumber. I haven't had any problem with weight myself.
