The safety gate you see at the top of the stairs uses pocket holes throughout (bottom and back of wood). I didn't want to drill into my ridiculously overly priced rails, so this unit simply slides over each of the posts. It's snug enough that there are no other supports or hardware and largely matches the existing rails.

Great solution! I'm impressed at the outside-the-box thinking to come up with such an integrated design! I couldn't even tell which was the rail and which was the gate until I took a closeup look.
