Ken, that is a great idea and i'm going to try it.  Thanks..... I really like the idea of having the dividers in the drums.

Other handy storage containers, are the "fiber" drums.

place the drums on a shop-made mobil base---

3/4" PW

2" casters

3" casters for larger drums

Dividers can be installed in tall drums, to keep wood strips upright.

Dividers can be made from 1/8 fiberboard.

dividers can extend from top to bottom of drum.

That's a great idea ken the 5 gallon buckets ,never would have thought of that .

Comment by Ken Darga on January 15, 2014 at 11:06pm

Small work-pieces can esily be stored in 5 gal size buckets.

Each bucket can be fitted with a dolly, so as to make it mobile.

Two such buckets can be located, side-by-side, on a single dolly.

A simple dolly can be made from 3/4" PW, cut-to-size and fitted with 3" casters, for mobility.

Make the base slightly over-size, and add stop blocks on 4 sides, to keep the bucket from sliding off, during transport.

For longer pieces, one bucket can be affixed to into another bucket, making it taller, for the longer pieces.  Cut out the bottom in the upper-most bucket.

Pop-rivet the upper bucket to the lower bucket.

Alternate construction:

a. 1/2" plywood boxes, made into a square or rectangular shape, and of a height to suit.

b. Cardboard drums.

c. Pickel barrels.

d. Old milk crates---singly for small pieces or stacked for longer pieces.

Mick, I have always got things in mind to do, but I am thinking about building 2 end tables for our living area in the house.  Mick, you are able to do so much in such a small area.  Keep up the great work.  I really like your projects.  I can surely tell that you like to stay busy.  Mick, I am really proud to have you as my pal. "question"?? Do you have any suggestions on a good way to store small pieces of lumber left over from past projects?  I have quite a lot of it in my shop and don't want to just discard it.

Harold if you do not mind me asking ,have you got any projects in mind when the shop set up? I am constantly evolving my shop as only 12x12 so always looking for optimum space .
